Overachieving junior here.
The only Humanities AP offered at my school next year will be APUSH. But I really don't like that subject and want to pursue other IB courses offered. Should I just be satisfied with 3 history credits or should I go with 4?

I hated APUSH. Like really, really hated it. I ended up with just a 4, and it made me really sad. But look at what the colleges you like require/recommend, and then decide.

I’m taking APUSH next year as a junior. I’m terrified.

I’m in the same boat as Millancad. I hated APUSH and got a 4.

But then again, I took AP Euro, the most amazing class ever, sophomore year. And so taking APUSH after that was such a let down. I was so bored.

My AP Euro teacher is a disillusioned, cynical guy which made the class pretty awesome. It’s pretty insane when you have a teacher that you know thinks in a similar manner to you.

Only thing i like about AP US is that many of the questions are pretty self-explanatory.

Sorry to insert my own question into this thread.

I want to take either AP U.S. History (I love American history) or AP Euro (don’t know much about European history, so I don’t “love” it obviously). Which one do you think I should take, considering I’ve already taken Honors U.S. History?

It really depends.

For me, I enjoyed AP Euro more, even though we had more notes. It seems to be a slightly more philosophical class than AP US. In general, Europeans just know how to do it better.

Haha, I think that’s right.

I’m interested in law/economics. Would APUSH help more with that?

I’m a freshman, and I am self-studying for APUSH. It is supremely boring, but the questions on the practice tests are ridiculously easy.

sqdwfe13- APUSH would probably help you more with what you are interested in, although in my opinion the class is very boring.

I really hate APUSH, I’m only taking it because US History is a required course at my school and it would be too easy to take US History Honors. I really wouldn’t take it unless it was required or if you really like US History.

I took AP Euro last semester and APUSH junior year.

I think AP Euro is a combination of APUSH and AP World. You have to learn about certain broad ideas (mercantilism, Neo-Platonism, etc.) like AP World, and yet to an extent you have to know certain cold, hard facts as well (Queen Elizabeth, Raphael, Galileo, 1492, etc.) much like APUSH. One thing about AP Euro, that may turn off some, is that it is heavily art-oriented (I was the only guy in a class of 16)

Now, to address your question APUSH was definitely the hardest AP history I’ve taken. Like I stated earlier, there are lots of cold, hard facts that you have to learn. As a US history nerd, this was not really a negative for me. But if you take the class, you HAVE to read, and listen in class. If you do, and also invest in the AMSCO APUSH book, the multiple choice on the AP exam will be a breeze.

Uh, there’s no IB History of the Americas?

APUSH was easy for me, and I enjoyed learning about our past. The American Pageant, contrary to what many people say, is humorous and a very easy read.

I guess the more you enjoy a subject, the better you do. I got a 5.
