Hello, I am planning to transfer to the college of design at the University of Minnesota, I am a freshman who is currently enrolled in the liberal arts school. My first semester of college I took calc and physics-- which i loved and kinda sparked my interest in architecture. I did a lot of research on the major and listed both the pros and cons. There are a lot of cons but an important pro is that its challenging and I think I will enjoy it. Basically, I’m making this post to ask is it worth it?
The architecture major won’t culminate in a professional degree so you’d need to go on to obtain the M.Arch before you can actually practice architecture. Nothing wrong with the bachelor’s program at UMN - just wanted you to be aware that it doesn’t culminate in the B.Arch.
Addendum to above: here is a fast track to the M.Arch - you might want to consider this option at CDes: http://arch.design.umn.edu/programs/bda/admissions.html
Also there is a BS in Arch degree program that is designed for undergrads who know they want to go on to the professional M Arch.
Did you take a look at the product design program in the college of design? It’s an interesting poly-math degree in field with good employment rates.
