Are 12 Credits for ONE Semester Okay?

Hello, I am an incoming freshman at Georgia State University, and I am registering for classes. As I registered for 15 credit hours, I noticed that I might not be able to do this due to some financial issues. When I removed one 3 credit course, I found that the amount I have to pay was WAY more manageable. I want to know is it okay for me to just do 12 hours this one semester?

Also, I have an AP credit for an English class, so I am exempt from one English class. I don’t know if that affects anything or not. I also plan on taking a summer class, as well.

Please, help me figure this out. Thank you.

Also GSU requires at least 90 credits to graduate. I did the math and it checks out fine. However, I just need some confirmation. I have EXTREMELY bad anxiety about stuff like this.

Usually 12 credit hrs is the minimum for full time. Some financial aid may specify more hrs.

According to the Georgia State Univ cost calculator the difference is the $285.27 per credit hr. The mandatory fees are the same $1064 per semester whether you take 12 or 15 credit hours. So if you only take 12 credit hrs a semester all the time to “save” you might end up needing 1-2 more semester where you will have to pay the mandatory fees.

Just be aware that if you fail or drop a course there could be financial aid consequences because you then would not have been a full time student.

Why don’t you meet with your advisor?
