Are all duel enrollment courses included in the UF GPA?

I am considering taking a few DE courses this summer at a local community college and I would these classes to boost my UF GPA but I’m not sure if they are included in its calculation. These are my options: http://www.mdc.edu/asa/documents/approved_dual_enrollment_courses.pdf

Many of these course say that they only count as an elective for high school graduation though and I’m worried that this may exempt those classes from my GPA calculation. Does UF take all DE classes or only ones that count towards high school grad.? Thanks

UF takes all DE classes, as long as it’s matches a class offered at UF(has a standard state of Florida course number). If the class is offered at a Florida CC, then UF will likely accept it.

However, UF will only use classes (including DE classes) that it views as academic as part of it’s GPA calculations for admissions. So they wouldn’t include “Jewelry and Metalsmithing 1” in your GPA calculation. UF also (and you may want to check on this) only takes into account classes up to the end of your junior year. None of your senior year classes count for your GPA and that may include any classes taken the summer before your senior year. You should call UF admissions and check with them.

I believe that I read somewhere that they do take junior year DE class and it would make sense considering that those grades are finalized long before the application deadline. I’ll see if I call UF soon to confirm though.

So obviously voacational classes like metalsmiting are not considered academic but do you know if electives like pyschology are consdered academic?

Yes, to UF they are not electives but academic college courses. They would count toward your GPA and likely count toward college credit.

Hi Gator88NE. I am a little confused as multiple sites seem to indicate all DE, IB and AP classes are counted in UF GPA, they just may not qualify for college credit. My understanding is AP Art counts just like AP Psych when computing GPA. I have considered emailing the school regarding this but it is still early for us. Is this not your understanding? Please let me know if I am incorrect.

I would agree that all AP classes count (toward GPA, as well as academic IB/AICE classes), but that none academic DE may not count. Check with UF admissions or your high school advisor.
