Are any of you an All-USA High School Academic First Team member?

of course, they arent the ones with 1000+ posts on CC...

I don't see anything special about those people.

umm, so what was your score on the Critical Reading (Verbal) part of the SAT?

i mean, i havent exactly done cancer research, won numerous international piano competitions, developed algorithms to monitor genetic data, brought food to starving people in Uganda, helped AIDS orphans, played on varsity sports, all while maintaining valedictorian status in high school, but i think i know enough of being able to read that theres something special here.

sorry just a take from an illiterate URM.

"sorry just a take from an illiterate URM."

-Illiterate and a minority? Wow, that must suck….

All I’m saying that I see nothing special about these people because of the colleges that they shall attend. Ok student X has good scores and extracurricular activities, but I’m sure that everyone else in his top-ranked school does too. Granted, that some of the activities are indeed impressive, I don’t see any need for such a list.

jpod, you shouldn't call them losers just because you are jealous of them. maybe they will cure a disease and save your life one day :P

and that brenna brucker reminds me of natalie portman.

I actually know two of them, and they're both incredibly cool and normal people, not crazy freaks.

So jPoD...you're wrong.

I sense jealousy

wow, these kids are ridiculously brilliant.

master, i know you had good intentions when you created this thread. but seriously, this is CC. is it safe to throw a match into a keg of gasoline? is it safe to throw out a thread like this on CC? no way. all it ended up doing was intimidate users or make users belittle their accomplishments. not to mention the jealousy that will boil with such a post. o, and btw, i am no academic team member, so i can't help you with your original questions (though no one seems to have done this yet). anyways, such people are probably afraid to post on CC b/c they dread the flood of posts they will receive if they reveal themselves. k, that's just my opinion. feel free to disagree: this is america, after all :)

a side note: i find it interesting that an overwhelming majority of the candidates did something involving science/math. is it just me, or is there a bias?

Anish Mehta, 17, Indian Hill High, Cincinnati

I met this guy while I was at MIT and Rice. Really nice guy, easy to talk to, and not pompous what-so-ever. In fact, I didn't even know he was this good.

actually being an illiterate minority (under 700 on CR according to CC means you're illiterate) has its perks, ill still get into college regardless.

Honestly, theyre a bunch of losers. I wonder when the last time these people left their houses was....
I sense jealousy

Far from it. I'm not jealous of them. Sure I wouldve liked to have a little better in HS, but why would I drastically change myself to something i'm not. I'm not like those kids. I dont want to be, nor will I. I just find their neverending list of credentials to be a joke....

That's completely irrelevant. Having a certain number of posts on a forum doesnt make one a 'loser' or whatnot. I think some people in this very thread would agree.

if having 1000 posts on this forum can't make you a loser then how can being smart make you a loser...

Sephiroth, is Anish related to Opal? ;)

There are sooooooo many Mehtas in this country. Of course, it's only a small number compared to the number of Patels and Shahs. Graduation is always funny when they come up.

A girl from my school was on the 2002 team. She was quite brilliant - she made the national physics team twice! I know another brilliant kid who finished Calculus by eighth grade, won international piano competitions, and had his symphony performed by some renowned orchestra before he was 10 years old. He was never on the USA Today list, but he made some Trenton Times list when he was a senior.

1000+ posts before he even applies to college...i think id rather be an intel finalist or a USA All-Academic First Team member

eh, these people are really accomplished, but they don't make me worry too much. there are very few people like this--and did you notice how many of them were Intel/Siemens winners? There were very few humanities-based people in comparison...All these people had very similar stats, really. They did some sort of research, had perfect SAT/ACT scores, and/or did some amazing volunteer work. These people overwhelmingly picked Harvard, too...so I don't really care...not planning on going there. And I'm not a math/science person so I'm not competing with such people directly. I'm happy with my accomplishments :)

these guys/girls are a ma zing. they're really cool people too. i know a couple of them and they are some of the coolest/most fun people to be with.

you guys are all just jealous :P
