Are CCers representative of all applicants?

Hey all,
Do you think CCers are, on balance, average applicants, above or below?

WAY above average. No question.

No. This is being discussed in the Parents Forum as well. There are only 150-200 colleges where admissions are really problematic and not based by-the-numbers. That's out of 3500 or so colleges. The folks on this board tend to be looking into these selective schools and tend to be the most obsessed of those doing so. Ergo, a highly skewed population.

However, witness some of the ED/EA bloodbaths that have now begun, most still don't Get It about how much of a crapshoot elite admissions are and are waaaay overconfident.

Try not to fall in love with schools until you've been admitted. Impossible to do. But good advice anyway.

Thanks for your input...when I'm reading descriptions of people who are applying at the same places as me, I always freak out! lol

"Try not to fall in love with schools until you've been admitted."

Wonderful advice, but (sigh), easier said than done.

word up to yo mama on that one r2005

my mama sends her best wishes.

lol, I was just having my little ghetto moment, what school are you in love with R2005

We're all ghetto on the inside. ;)
ha, just kidding.

I'm in love with the big D. How about yourself?

I used to think that people on here were more qualified than the average student, but I'm not sure any more. I think stats wise we're higher than average, but over all if we were so much better there would be a higher acceptance rate.

ok I wish I knew what big D was, lol, but for me is UPENN, even though my stats suck for that school

ohhh dartmouth

big D= duke!

UPenn kicks ass. I was going to apply, but I can't bring myself to do anymore essays!

oh lol, i knew that....

It's "Penn" now guys. They took the "U" out last year.

I LOVE PENN!

oh welll i like upenn bc penn sounds like its penn state or sumthing

Ahh, Big D's. Dartmouth. Duke. I'm off to Dartmouth next year and my brother's at Duke! Sorry. Excited beyond belief. But yeah, Big D's rock.

CCers are WAYYY above average, espcially compared to people from my area.

Daria, what are you talking about!!! We DO have a higher percentage. For example, on the stanford board so far we have a staggering 66% acceptance rate, when the actual rate is just over 20%. The difference might not be that much in other schools, but i'm willing to bet every single college board on this website has a higher acceptance rate than the overall rate for that college.

Honesty to GOD (if exists, but whatever), this website truly depresses me yet I haven't found a way not to come back lol

People seem to have frigging higher/better stats than I am whether rejected/deferred/waitlisted/accepted. It makes me feel very inferior I should say.

But at the same time, it's got wonderful resources you can rely on.

I love this place but hate it at the same time (if it makes any sense).
