Are classes generally held the day before Thanksgiving break (Wednesday)?

I know that there technically are classes on the day before Thanksgiving break (Wednesday, November 17th) but at the community college I was concurrently enrolled at, although there was technically class, the teachers that I had pretty much all said that classes were cancelled on Wednesday so that students could travel and all that. Do many professors do that, or was I just lucky? I'm trying to book transportation but I'm not sure if I should get a late flight/train so I can still go to most/all my classes that day or if I should opt for an earlier flight/train which would work better with my family's schedule. Any suggestions? Experiences?

Usually it’s not a huge deal to miss lectures that day, attendance is usually lower. My luck has been that none of my classes have been cancelled that day in two years. Wait to see your schedule and make sure you don’t have mandatory wednesday sections.
