I'm an incoming freshman at a school ranked in the top 200 high schools in the nation.I would
like to know if the courses I plan to take in high school are good enough when applying to ivy league schools or the equivalent. Assuming I get all A's in the classes(which I probably won't)
I get really good SAT's and ACT's, what are my chances at these schools?
P.S: I currently play piano(8years), trumpet(just starting), and percussion(4years), and I plan to play 2 or 3 school sports.

Thanks for chancing me and please be honest(meaning no jokes):)

That is a very competitive course load. Almost all As with a minimum number of Bs should see you right. But sweetie, you just finished 8th grade. SATs? ACTs? You don’t take those until Junior year. You won’t even take the PSAT until you are a Sophomore. Stanford doesn’t even consider your freshman year in admissions. So while you should keep up the grades, remember that they aren’t everything. Colleges want to know what you do for fun. You are going to want/need to volunteer, to join clubs, maybe even found one. Getting yourself set up in high school - joining clubs, trying new activities, making friends - that is what this year is all about. Make the most of it - don’t just be a A-producing machine.

I completely agree with the person above me. That’s an extremely competitive courseload, and if you can keep above a C in all of those courses (with a minimum number of B’s of course), you should be fine when applying to Harvard, Stanford, etc.
However, I do think that you should cool it with the freshman year classes. You’re just getting into high school, you don’t know how difficult it’s going to be. Also, you want time to develop a social life – a network of friends. Not only will close friends help you in high school, but having a network of friends will help you beyond when you start to look for jobs etc. Connections are a main part of future success, so don’t completely dash your social life in an attempt at Ivy League acceptance.

Haha, thanks for your opinions. By the way, this schedule was made because of my parents(to make them happy). They are asian, so i guess the course load can’t be helped. I think i got the social part of high school nailed down(against the will of two people^) and I’ve already taken the PSAT, with a 220+. So yeah, again thanks for your opinions, I just hope I can handle this!

Just remember every high school’s dictum: grades, social life and sleep. Pick two.

I pick grades and social life… sleep I don’t need.:)
