Hi guys!

I took the SAT subject tests in literature and U.S. history today.

I really don't feel confident about the literature test. It was much harder than the practice tests that I took. Even if I didn't miss any, my score would probably be a 630. I would be fine with that, but I'm thinking it's going to be more like a 600.

My problem mainly was that I didn't feel confident about the answer choices, so unless I was certain, I didn't fill in the bubbles.

U.S. history, however, went much better. I'm hoping for at least a 700.

I'm kind of hoping that good scores on the tests would supplement my ACT score. I'm expecting to get either a 27 or a 28 composite. I know that it's low...

Would good scores on the subject tests help my chances of admission? Scripps "recommends" taking them.

Thanks!

Scripps does not require subject tests. I personally would not submit them unless they were very stong (in the mid-700’s). I don’t think it will hurt your application to submit them as they are but if subject tests are not required, one usually submits them only to strenghten the application if they are very strong. Good luck!

I forgot to add that one thing to know about subject tests is that since it is the more elite schools that require them, the pool of students sitting for them is stronger than the general population. Therefore, the average subject test score is higher than it is for the SAT I or ACT, usually in the high 600’s or low 700’s.(depending on subject) I would focus on getting your ACT to a 29, if you can, although my D got in with a 28. Grades seem even more important to Scripps than testing and I do think they take a holistic approach. The key is to find a way to communicate to admissions how you will be an asset to the community.

revbon50: Thank you! I’m planning on retaking the Lit test. I don’t think I’ll retake the US history because I’m afraid I would forget the information.

My HS is really small, but I think I’ve taken advantage of almost all the opportunities it has to offer. I just really hope that Scripps thinks I’m a good fit.

Did your daughter submit her SAT subject test scores?

Financial aid is also a big concern. How was your/your daughter’s experience?

Also, do you have any other advice?

My parents really want me to go to the college that is 10 minutes from my house. They aren’t too thrilled about me going off to a college that is more than an hour away from home.

I’m also from Missouri and I plan on applying ED.

Sorry - I just saw your questions! My D did not take the subject tests, only the ACT. as for finaid - Scripps provides 100% of demonstrated need so given that we have a fairly modest income and do not own a home we are asked to pay about $15,000 in total per year. This will of course vary depending on your circumstances but it really does not get any better than scripps for need based finaid. Good Luck!

revbon50: Thanks. FA is my biggest concern!
