I am a current sophomore and have been wanting to transfer for over a year now. I wanted to transfer first semester of my freshman year, but everyone said to give it time and that things would get better after my first year. Now in my second year, I'm still wanting to transfer so I figured I might look into it. My reasons for transferring are:
-Financial reasons. I have a full tuition scholarship to my current school, but I still have to pay room and board which is $9000. The school I am looking at is in-state, close to my house so I could live at home, and after getting in-state financial aid would be WAY cheaper. I'm just scared that it might not end up being cheaper after I factor in gas for commuting and all of that.
-I don't like my major. My school doesn't have the major I want, but they have something close to it, so I can make do. But, I'm not sure if I just want to make do and get through my major when I could transfer somewhere else and study the major I want to.
-I don't like the school in general. It's pretty, but I don't like the social atmosphere or anything. It's not that I want a party school or anything, but my current college is only 1900 students, which is less than half of my high school. Almost everyone comes from in-state and from small, private high schools and think my college is huge. I feel like I don't fit in.
-It's far from home. I'm not homesick or anything, it's just hard to make myself drive 6 hours to a school I don't really like.

Some people are worried that I'm transferring for my boyfriend, but I don't think I am. I'll admit, it'll be nice to be close to him, but I've wanted to transfer for a year now, and I didn't meet him until this summer.

Are these valid reasons for transferring? I want to transfer but I'm hesitant because I don't want to make a hasty or wrong decision. I'd be fine sticking it out at my current school, but the thought of having to go back for 2 1/2 more years is just exhausting. Any input is greatly appreciated!
