Are these valid reasons for transferring? - Help!

I'm thinking about transferring from a tier 2 SUNY school to one of the top SUNY's.

My reasons for transferring are:
My classes aren't very challenging.
I don't like the area.
It's a pretty big party school and I'd like more of a social/academic balance.
The new school would be 1.5 hours closer to home.
I haven't really met people that I've clicked with here.
The weather in the winter is horrible.
The new school has a better academic reputation.

The only things holding me back are:
The school I'm looking at doesn't have as many options for majors. (I'm pretty sure about my major though..)
I'm afraid I won't meet people easily at the new school.
My GPA may drop since the school is more rigorous than the one I'm at. I have a 4.0 right now.
My boyfriend goes to the school I'm looking at and I don't want that to hold me back socially.

Can anyone help me decide if transferring is worth it?

All of your reasons for transferring are valid. And all of your concerns are valid too. Only you can decide if it is worth it. As far as the boyfriend goes, just ask yourself if you would be choosing this school to transfer to even if he wasn’t in the picture. And, would you still be comfortable in your new school if you break up? If the answer to those questions is yes, and if it is indeed a better school academically for your major, then I’d say go for it, because it seems like the pros outweigh the cons. As far as meeting people, IMO you might have this same issue no matter where you transferred. I think many transfer students have the same fear. You will just need to make more of an effort. And just make sure you cultivate some of your own friendships (apart from his circle of friends) and interests if you end up there.

Thanks! I’ve talked to my boyfriend and we both agree that we shouldn’t hangout very much the first few weeks of school so I can meet people. Anyone else have advice?

Which SUNYs are you talking about? The University Centers have large enrollments so, if you’re looking for a smaller school, they may not be for you. If you’re at a northern branch, like Plattsburgh, or a western one, like Buffalo, coming down out of the Adirondacks/away from the Great Lakes will help with the stinky weather, but you’ll still be in NYS. There’s only so much better winter will get here. What major(s) are you interested in? Broadcast majors need to be near larger markets to have access to better internships. Location might not matter so much for other majors. What year are you in? It can be a challenge to make friends, but if you join groups you’re interested in, it’s easier. Have you checked the clubs available at the other campus? Are there any that interest you? I’d be concerned about a limited choice of majors. You’re in school to get an education. Transferring to a college with limited choices if you’re not entirely certain could be a mistake.

I’d be transferring from Oswego to Geneseo. My major is accounting, and I’m a freshman. Geneseo also has Economics which I’m interested in if I want to switch from accounting

Any additional advice?
