Are online courses frowned upon for transfers?

I’m considering taking online courses at Miami-Dade College and transferring to a proper university. My question, however, is whether or not this will be something frowned upon when looking at my transcripts. It’s been a few years since I was in any public institution for education, be that higher or otherwise, so I’m a bit out of the loop on what is considered academically “acceptable”. Given my current circumstances, online courses seem the most viable for things like math, science, social studies, etc. Will this be a bad choice if I am looking at transferring to somewhere like UF or a decent state college or private university?

Will you be taking ALL on-line classes? UF accepts transfers from Miami-Dade (and all CC’s in Florida), so the classes themselves are not the problem. However, you need to make sure you meet the transfer requirements for the college you wish to enter at UF. Check out the major and make sure the required courses are available on-line.

Also, don’t take on-line courses if you’re planning on being pre-med.

Finally, have you looked at UF Online? If UF Online offers your major, you may want to transfer to it, and not the campus. It’s a LOT cheaper, and a degree from UF Online is exactly like a degree from campus. The only issue is the limited number of majors offered. If you’re open to getting your BS/BA online, UF’s program is a great deal.

BTW: Talk with the advisors at Miami-Dade about transfers to UF or another college. They can give you all of the details, including answering your questions about the online classes!

Good Luck!
