Are the tests in the Red ACT Books good? Is there anything I can use the book for other than the tests? What would you guys suggest? I have heard that the red book tests are not accurate. I am going to start taking CrackACT tests. Do you guys know of anything the book is helpful in? Should I read the english section? Math section? I’m talking about the sections that are given before the actual practice tests.
The red books are really good. The ACT is all about practice. Set a timer on your phone or watch of the allowed time and do individual sections (for example, just English, not math, science, or reading). After time runs out, go back and mark all the ones you got wrong. Then, WITHOUT GOING TO THE ANSWERS EXPLAINED SECTION, see if you can figure out why you missed it and what you should have done. If you can’t figure it out within 10 minutes, then you can go to the explanations. I did one of these a day for a week. Don’t do more than two in a day or your brain will turn to sludge.
Only buy the books that the act company makes. They might be more expensive than the generic ones but it’s much better. Also, don’t waste your time taking act practice from before 2010, you’re wasting your time! The more recent the practice test the better.
The test in the ACT Red book has problems unlike anything on the exam I took. Maybe the science and English sections mimicked it okay, but nothing in the red book math was similar to the problems I saw on test day.
The red book is the only one you can really trust. Those and these: http://blog.prepscholar.com/complete-official-act-practice-tests-free-links
If you want to good on the ACT, use the Black Book and the Red Book. Together, with a month of practice, you are guaranteed a 30 or higher.
