Are there Kitchens at UCLA?

Hey everyone, I'm a 2014 Bruin going in as a freshman next year. Just got a housing offer for De Neve and deciding on a meal plan. Just a quick question. Do students living on campus have any access to kitchens? I'd like to cook some of my own meals now and then, or should that wait until I move out in the future? thanks

No kitchens.

You can try and get creative with a microwave but thats about it on campus.

The only kitchens on campus are all at Weyburn Terrace and other graduate housing. The university will actually offer Weyburn to undergraduates under special circumstances. (Single mother, etc.)

how come when i was reading housing rules it says that microwaves are banned along with other things like hotpots and electric water heaters? apparently they’re fire hazards…but when i visited people had microwaves and electric water heaters so…what?

You read the housing rules? Wow, that’s dedication. You can rent out microwaves (and fridges), they basically just want to know how many people have them. I don’t know about electric water heaters. It’s pretty easy to get away with stuff anyway, since they’re not allowed to touch anything while doing room inspections. If you just put it away or cover it up in advance, you’ll be fine. You could literally have a barbecue in the middle of your room, but if there’s a sheet over it they can’t do anything.

Yes, they are against the rules. Yes, people still have them.

You can rent micro-fridges which is a combination microwave and fridge. Those are allowed by housing.

Yay for electric water heaters. I save so many swipes by making tea instead of getting bcaf coffee.

There’s a kitchen in Bradley International - you can reserve it if needed, I think.

lol i am in apartment and microwave is becoming my source of cooking =.= yay midterms

^^ Really? How do I do that?

Only registered student groups can use the kitchen…but I’ve used it to make apple pies at night, since staff isn’t really there to check. The kitchen is pretty nice - big counter, two stoves, some cookware already there.

Last time I heard, Bradley was going through renovation and the kitchens weren’t available. Haven’t been on the hill so dunno if that’s the case now.
