my problem is that my major requires 3 pre-req's, thats it! But im taking one right now, and the other two in spring. Will it hurt that I am taking those pre-req's in the spring?? and also, I am taking 28 units (transferable) in the spring as well. crazy right? Will that hurt because I only have 20 transferable units completed right now and after this fall I will have 33? I need to take that many (28 units) so I will end up with 61 tansferable units in total...oh and I am not in honors but my GPA is a 3.8 for cultural anthropology. what do you guys think???

From uc system website:

Keep in mind that most UC campuses admit a limited number of lower division transfer students. This means that, in most cases, you should plan on completing at least 60 semester (90 quarter) units before you transfer. In addition, most campuses don’t admit students with 90 semester (135 quarter) units or more.

Though it sounds like you might have rushed through your courses, I think you are safe. As long as you finish them before you transfer.

I'm applying to UCLA this year as well, good luck to you!

Try to take some winter courses is all I have to say.

Yes try to take winter courses. if you're in los angeles, there's plenty of community colleges in the LA area that offer winter courses. enroll now before they fill up.

Is completing over 60 units better as long as you stay below 90?

No. Someone who completes 70 units doesn't get any special treatment over someone who completes 60.

Wouldn't matter from a CC though, don't they only transfer over 70 semester units from CC?

Thanx guys!! My school does not offer any Winter classes and I did not want to transfer to another CCC. I don't mind taking 28 units spring semester but it will be pretty crazy I'm sure. I'm taking anthro 1, anthro 2, math 25, CIS 1, english 1c, fine art, cinema 25, cinema 26, and communications 8!! lol most of them are just transferable elective classes!! I pretty much have my IGETC and pre-reqs complete

Is that even possible? Wow.

you dont mind......? be prepared for a precipitous drop in your GPA, maybe.

oh I should be fine! LOL. I am taking 17 units now (5 classes), I am getting all A's, and they are all hard classes. Oh...and I am working full-time. So I figure if i just work like one day a week, then 28 units should be no big deal. I will just be focusing on school rather than on work all the time.

wait... just for a clarification, 28 SEMESTER units or 28 QUARTER units?

Just to jump in here with a quick FYI - whatever school you plan on applying to will know that there is a 99% chance that your GPA will drop substantially if you go from a 15-unit workload to a 28-unit workload - no matter how you adjust your work schedule. Also a big red flag will go up when they see that. Mind that.

I understand that but most of them are all easy elective courses. I know I can handle 28 units. My friend did 26 and did fine. If i am taking 17 units now and working full-time, it cant be any harder to take 28 units and not work at all. Understand what I mean?

That depends on the teaching methods of each class's professor. Even if the classes are easy electives, if the professor is the type to give lots of homework/take-home assignments (as opposed to merely testing your ability to remember 'easy' stuff by only administering exams), then you will find that having to do work for 6-7 classes constantly will begin to wear you down, and that no matter how 'easy' the nature of the work is, a disinterest/brute rushing through the work simply to get it done, will definitely show. You should totally go for it, but don't be too disappointed if it doesn't work out.

Oh and also, I'm not sure if you should plan on working. Really wrap your mind about what you're getting into - a year's-worth of classes in one semester.

wait...like do you really think that they won't accept me if I show I'm taking 28 units? I have a very 3.85 GPA, my major is not impacted, I will have all my pre-reqs complete and I will be IGETC certified. My personal statement I'm sure will be amazing too LOL. In my 'section 3' of the personal statement, I am going to explain my reasoning for taking so many units and that I know I can handle it, because I will not be working nearly as much during that time.

Ohh BTW, the classes I have chosen are ones that my friends have taken in the past and they have recommended them to me. I honestly think i can do it :) But I will find out LOL

lololololololol
