Are UCLA, Berkeley, CSU Long Beach or Santa Barbara possible for me?

If I have a 3.95 weighted gpa by the end of junior year, a SAT of 1300, 300+ hours of community service with a dog rescue, completed AP capstone, done 4 ap classes, and 2 honors classes, do I have any chance of getting in to any of these schools as a bio/zoology major?

You’re already a senior? If not, why are you listing senior grades??? Your post indicates that you’re a junior.

Are you a calif resident? Are you an international student?

What is your career goal as a bio major?

Aren’t you going to retake that 1300 SAT???

UC’s and CSU’s use only 10-11th grades in their GPA calculation and only UC approved Honors/AP classes taken 10-11th count are used for the extra weighting. So based on the Rogerhub GPA calculator, your UC/CSU capped weighted GPA is around 4.0 and Fully weighted is 4.0. This is based on what you have posted since grades could change by year’s end. Do you only get 1 grade for class per year?

https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

This calculation is based on 8 A’s 10-11th and 2 B’s 10-11th. Extra weighting for AP Lang and Honors Chem.

Honors English is not a UC weighted Class and I do not see the 4th AP class. AP classes taken in 12th grade are not used in the UC GPA calculation nor are they used for admission purposes.

For CSULB, they admit by eligibility index and major.
EI= (CSU/UC capped weighted GPA x800) + (SAT Math + EBRW) so your EI is 4500 so definitely competitive and a Match school for you.

The UC’s admit based on UC capped weighted GPA and also Fully weighted UC GPA, Test Scores, HS course rigor, EC’s and Personal insight essays.

Here is some UC statistical data. Also I would expand on your college list and add SDSU, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Poly SLO, UCI, UCSC and UCD to your list as possible suggestions.
UCB will be a Low Reach and UCSB is a Low Reach. Best of luck.

2018 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:

UCB: 10%
UCLA: 9%
UCSD: 34%
UCSB: 38%
UCD: 41%
UCI: 38%
UCSC: 70%
UCR: 84%
UCM: 95%

2018 UC capped weighted GPA averages:
UCB: 4.23
UCLA: 4.23
UCSD: 4.16
UCSB: 4.13
UCI: 4.13
UCD: 4.11
UCSC: 3.96
UCR: 3.81
UCM: 3.71

2018 Data:
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:

UCB: 1360-1540

UCLA: 1340-1540
UCSD: 1300-1520
UCSB: 1270-1500
UCD: 1220-1480
UCI: 1230-1490
UCSC: 1210-1450
UCR: 1130-1380
UCM: 1020-1280

Also on one of your othe threads you stated you have a 3.8 weighted GPA with a 1310 SAT so you need to clarify your correct stats???

Yes, I am a senior. I mistyped, I meant If I ended junior year with that gpa.

Ok…are you a Calif resident?

Why didn’t you apply last fall?

What is your career goal with biology?

Yes, I am a CA resident, a senior, and I did apply and was wondering if applying to the UC’s was a waste of money for me since I don’t know if I would be able to get in.

There is nothing wrong in having a few Reach schools on your list and since the UC’s can be unpredictable, you will never know if a UC acceptance is possible unless you apply.

Another issue is that your class rigor is slightly low. A potential Biology major for a UC will have taken AP Math and Science classes.

You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. It’s good to try for reach schools but make sure you have some backup ones as well. Also, what ECs do you have?

Gumbymom You stated AP classes taken in 12th grade are not used in the UC GPA calculation nor are they used for admission purposes.

So does it doesn’t matter if one takes AP Gov or regular Gov in their senior year? As the UCs won’t consider this in their admission process?
