are ucla people willing to murder you for the A in the sciences and biz econ?

As my title suggests, I want to have an idea about the competition level at UCLA. Let's say I decided to do a science major, an area where pre-meds roam. Would you end up studying for hours helplessly? Would a 24/25 on a quiz be a D- due to the curve or what? Let's say I decided to do biz econ, how bad is it in comparison to the sciences. Some of my friends said it might not be worth going to UCLA since literally all the classes are curved even if they do get accepted. Is this not true do people actually breathe at LA when majoring in chem, biz econ or any other competitive major?

No, you won't be studying for hours helplessly if you know how to manage your time and if you know how to study.

As for curves - it depends on the class. As for quizzes - depends on the professor. Curves aren't that harsh for general midterms and final exams.

No, classes are literally not all curved. Science classes are the for the most part curved. Economics classes (intro.) are curved. Math classes are curved. Humanities and most social science classes are based on the straight 100-90-80-70-Fail scale.

People exaggerate the difficulty as part of an intimidation factor or pure word-of-mouth and hyperbole. Figure it out yourself and don't be afraid to try. You'll have time to do things if you can manage it appropriately... it's about balance and getting help when you need it. One does not need to study 12 hours a day everyday.

D-? You must be kidding me- you need at least a 30/25 to get a D- in the science classes here and pre-meds would laugh at such a ridiculously low score and would pretend you're not even there if you can't even break a 50/25, so you should be fine if you're scoring a measly 24/25. Also, why would your friends waste their money applying if they won't come here- sounds like they're just trying to cover their bases should bad news come their way.

To give an example, class averages on organic chemistry exams I've taken (30a/b so far) usually fall within the 50-60% range... and exams are curved to a B-.

I wouldn't really worry about competition :)

^ Not as bad as Berkeley though :p

As benfino said, don't really worry about the competition and the curves.

Although I am not doing biz econ, economics + accounting is not that much of a difference. I can say from my experiences that if anything, curves help you a lot more than they hurt you. I have yet to take a class where the curve hurt me rather than helped me.

Just do your best and aim for solid grades (like an A without a curve) and you should be fine.

you'll be fine. just study efficiently and work hard. if you want to be successful, you'll have to invest a lot of time in your studies no matter where you go.

that being said, the median score in my math class for our first quiz was 100% hahahaha

some people here are really smart, but honestly, you get the whole spectrum here. there will be plenty not so bright and lazy people here who will help you get the better grade

Are you taking 171 right now?

Pulls hair out and looks around crazily

Where do you live, again?

The UCLA people will not murder you becasue they need you for the A's. They are not that stupid.

Now maybe if they could get away with it 100%, then we have a different story! evil

I'd murder you for $1 >:).

@jyancy: I really know you're kidding but can anyone tell me if he's telling the truth or not..?

Honest to God, if someone or something or classes don't murder you, I will, *****es.

dude i'd definitely do it if i could get away.
