Are we required to enroll in recommended courses by our academic advisors?

Another question : my major is Physiology and Neuroscience and there is a math course I have to take this fall, either MATH10B or MATH20B. I think my major falls into MATH10B category but is it okay if I choose to take MATH20B instead? Like how harder is MATH20B compared to MATH10B?

What do you guys think about CHEM6AH? Is it worth taking it? What are pros and cons?

FYI, “required” and “recommended” aren’t the same thing.

It’s perfectly fine. Not very. If you took Calc AB, you’ve already covered half of the 20B curriculum. My HS math teacher gave us harder problems than my 20B professor did.

Pretty pretty please, search the archives. My answer is that a VERY small subset of people benefit from this class properly, and those people are hardcore analytical thinkers with extremely strong foundations in math and physics (not so much chemistry, believe it or not). It’s basically advanced topics that are covered in upper-division physical chemistry.

9/10 times, the people that take 6AH just take a grade hit and wouldn’t have benefited from it at all.

Most colleges/departments/jobs, look at your transcript. They see “General Chemistry ---- GRADE” more importantly than they see “Honors General Chemistry -----”. So getting an A+ in 6A which is extremely plausible, 6A is a cakewalk, is a much better option than taking 6AH, competing with the geniuses and risking a B or less. Yes the A+ in regular Joe Shmo Chem 6A is much more worth it than the B.

My ex girlfriend regrets taking the honor series emphatically.
