Are you the "I get by type" ?

I’m a combination of both. In English, history, etc. I can churn out essays and answer questions, and still get As (usually with positive teacher comments!) But in Calculus…hoo boy, a whole different story. I have to work hard and study, just to earn a semi-decent grade…while other students can skip all of that and still earn an A

Wow, RootBeerCaesar hates me and my kind. I wasn’t expecting that kind of vitriol.

What’s mose interesting is I feel exactly the opposite. Nothing irks me as much as when people with comparably less natural ability outperform those with comparably more but a weaker work ethic. Excessive studying, to me, smacks of cheating at its best and a perversion of the natural order at its worst.

I suppose it’s a sort of elitist sentiment - “I received this grade using only the mental resources God gave me, whereas you slaved away and came away with the same result, you cheater” - and for that I feel guilty sometimes. I really do get irritated, though, when someone who is by no means a brilliant writer manages to succeed in a course like AP English because he/she did the homework. Doing better than them on the exam is but a small consolation.

I’m the sort of kid who is hurt by the “filler” assignments, and often wishes that classes consisted entirely of tests and essays.

I feel exactly the same way melancholyDane

There are so many girls in my schools who have tried so hard since freshmen year and are ranked in front of me right now. I got the last laugh thanks to the sat. Without all the time in the world to do homework and study, the playing field is leveled out and they sunk.

Even though i realize that i could study too, i dont have time to. Thats kind of why i hate high school, you get the grade you worked for rather than the one you deserve

Granted, there are people who work very hard whom I still respect, if I am a little envious. I’m mostly talking about a small, infinitely annoying subset.

I also see the SAT (and ACT) as the great equalizer. The trouble is, though, they co-opted that too with their prep classes and study books and third tries. They pour enough money in to feed a small nation and as a result their scores nearly match mine, whereas my principles prevent me from studying or taking it more than once.

Lol I’m in eighth grade and I’m like that. Except none of my friends study either. =D but my school is ridiculously… simple…
The accelerated classes are 9th grade honors classes for eighth graders.

EDIT: But some of my friends, you know, get 80’s and they’re quite satisfied…

I used to be like that until I took a full plate of AP courses this year.
Then I woke up and smelled the textbooks.

I’m kind of like that.

I always BS all my work, especially essays (I had one of the hardest teachers in the school last year for English, wrote an essay on 1984 which I didn’t read at all, and got like a B+), I always do things at the last minute, I absolutely never study. I get in the B to A- range in grades.

yeah, im that type of person. i find ways to manage my time and do all my work at school and sleep in classes and i get straight As in all my AP classes. im sure ill adjust to whatever college demands of me.
