How do people get straight As?

I'm a rising sophomore and for some reason I can't get straight As. First semester I got 4 As and 3 Bs. Second semester I got 6 As and 1 B. I just can't seem to get straight As. This year my classes were PIB English (B,B)< PIB World History (B,A), PIB French 2 (B,A), Physics H (A,A), PIB Bio (A,A), Journalism 2 (A,A), and Precalc (A,A). Next year I'm taking AP English lang (required), IB Computer studies, AP US govt/VPS (required), AP Calc AB (required), AP stats, PIB Chem 1 (required), PIB French 3 (required). I'm taking Calc 1 at a local CC this summer (I know I'm taking it at a CC AND high school) which should lighten up my AP calc course load. I'm very determined so can someone please tell me how I might be able to get straight As. Our AP English lang is supposedly easier than PIB English. I might start AP Art History on flvs, but I'm really not sure if I should or not. There is a really good teacher who seems really nice. So any advice on how I can possibly get straight As next year?

im not a person who gets straight a's but:

1) become a bookworm afterschool 24/7
2) listen in class the WHOLE time

My experience:

Give really intelligent and insightful responses in class. The teacher will assume that you do your work [and that you do it well]. In my case, the teacher gave me 100s on homework even though I hadn't turned in homework in 3 months. :D

My experience.

Do ALL homework at all costs. Determination is extremely essential. Studying is also vital.

That's how I do it. :)

that is sooooooo not true
i get straight As all the time and i never ever listen in school or read the books that im supposed to just do well on tests and do the homeworks that is really going to affect the grade
and use sparknotes and cliffnotes for the book its really a waste of time to read the book
i dont see how u can get Bs when ur so concerned...

^^ I odn't know either. First semester I know why, but I don't understand why I do bad in English. However, the one thing that really killed me was Romanticism :'(. My teacher was really hard. I was one of the unlucky ones, but that teacher is friends with my brother and I. It's not like she's mean, she's just really hard. AP English (lang and lit) are suppose to be really easy so I'm praying that the rumors are true.

cheating...

^ I go to a strict school and my school is BIG on cheating. We had a 250 point report thing due in Englsih. It was like a journal for "Frankenstein" and people were caught cheating on it (not a lot like a page out of 18) and gave them 0s. There were about 25 people who got zeros. I don't think cheatings the "ultimate" answer.

Do all of your homework. You get used to staying up late.
But, also, get used to doing homework quickly. For example, being able to write a journal for English in 15 minutes at 5:30 in the morning =)
Also, my evil secret: if you do exceptionally well early on in a course, teachers usually assume that you do the work and that everything you do is A+ work. That's what I did in Envi Sci and English, and I got A+s thanks to my good reputation =)

Read post #3. :D

I don't get straight A's (always 1 B in spanish cause I'm dyslexic and foreign language and I don't get along). But my experience is, just do the work and you'd be surprised how easy it is.

Ha, cheating! Yeah, that's an idea. :P

Well, I think there's basically 3 types of people who get straight A's:

1) The person who studies really hard and works really really hard
2) The person that is "gifted," so material comes to this person easily. However, this person still has to work hard (obviously to complete all work), but it is just easier.
3) The non-deserving person (athlete, super grade inflation, etc.)

I'm "type 2," and I know a girl who is "type 1." She isn't very social and I know she is a "study-freak." Is that you?

You're also taking very difficult classes, so I'm sure that factors in.

Hope you get good and/or easy teachers.

^^^ Haha I'm type 4. Material comes really easy and blows off the work until the hour before or during passing time.

I'm type 5: I don't do anything at all ==⇨ instead of procrastination, don't even do it! :D End of story.

Study like a madman.

It's not all that hard to get straight A's at my school (the odd GPA system balances it out though), but I know other schools can be tougher. What can I say? There isn't really a set in stone rulebook for it; just work hard and try your best. Lame advice, but besides that, all you can really do is suck up to the teachers and hope for the best.

Study, constantly review, study, have no life, study then you're done :D

Study for tests. It's that easy.
It would be hard not to get an A on a test when you actually have the class materials under your belt.

Studying and I didn't get along in 8th grade and my school is known for it's hard classes. In 9th, I started to figure out how to study better, but not quite there yet. When exams came, I studied for it and learned really good study habits and even got 100 on my history final exam! So, hopefully it stays. And to kevin63138, I am NOT number 1!!!!! I will start to study more, but I have never even considered studying til this year. I hope I don't become like that :(! I'm going to try and stay a #2 to a certain extent :D!
