Arggh! When's the best time to apply?

And don't say "yesterday" =) because I know.

I have very minimal work done on the UMich application, and likely won't be able to because my priority is to get an MIT EA out in a day or two. FWIW, I'm out of state, applying to engineering, and my board scores are 2160/34 and 800 (IIC), 770 (Latin and Physics) and my gpa 99.6 (it's weird...it's just called a 4.0 and I haven't heard of 4.1s or anything existing at my school)

So, should I be really worried and start hacking away at the application as soon as November 1st rolls by? Is there a priority date? At what point is it considered "late", comparatively speaking with and regards to chances of admission?

Edit: I guess this might be useful for calculating the Michigan GPA, as described in another thread by A2Wolves6:

1) Get rid of all "weighted" boosts.
2) Get rid of all non-academic classes.
3) Get rid of all freshman grades
4) Don't worry about +/-, Michigan doesn't consider these.

So that makes 12 A's, 1 B. I'm not sure how to actually calculate it though.

Make every A grade a 4 and every B grade a 3 add them up and get the average(of course only using grades that are from soph/junior and are academic classes...no band etc)...thats your Umich Gpa

By mid november applicants to Umich have a lesser chance of getting in...but this really only affects fringe students...which from your stats does not seem like it...so you prob be fine applying early to mid nov...

You don't have to figure out the Michigan GPA if you got all A's ... it's naturally 4.0 unweighed 8^).

^^um look at the very bottom of his post...

Ahh...that 89 in literature ^_^ Yep. (I came off better than a few of my classmates who also missed the second to last week to boys state, so it could have been worse) Thanks gumba for the answer.

As long as you are applying before January, you shouldn't have a problem gaining an acceptance with a 3.9 and a 34 on the ACT. But in order for scholarships and aid to come your way, you want to get it out ASAP. It's rolling, and the earlier you apply, the better chance you have.

Students with your credentials do not usually get turned down by Michigan, even if they apply in December or January. But do try to apply as soon as possible, if only to get an acceptance from Michigan before Christmas.
