I WANT to do OA...I'm ITCHING to do OA...but damn prudence is holding me back :(

I have serious commitment issues sob :(

so, tell me sucharita, prudence about what?...

takes patient psychologist attitude... plays with pencil

:D

well I dunno- I sometimes feel that the boring stuff is the stuff thats good for me...that as much as I might hate playing mini golf, it'll get me a bank account that OA won't get me until later...ahhhh

In a nutshell, OA feels like temptation which I don't want to resist, but somehow feel that I must :(

Ok, what we've got here is a mental, how should i say, imaginary, barrage (with specific french pronunciation)...

continues to play with pencil

i think that what you have to do is just wait for a good moment and take the decision. You're not afraid of making this decision, you're just waiting for the proper moment, and after that you won't look back at all! After all, you know it's just a bank account! :D

money back guarantee <--- aaaah, earthly possessions...

Time for you and time for me
And time yet for a hundred indecisions
And a hundred visions and revisions
Before the taking of a toast and tea.

I can live with that :)

It is not temptation that you feel, young padawan. But fear....

OK darth revan just tell me how to get rid of it already!

Tell all the people that you see
Follow me/ Follow me down
Tell all the people that you see
Set them free/ Follow me down

You tell them they don't have to run
We're gonna pick up everyone
Come out and take me by my hand
Gonna bury all our troubles in the sand, oh yeah

Oh yeaaaah!! OA anyone? :D

If i were Darth Revan, i woulds say: :that answer lies within you, and only within you!"

but i'm just Revan, thus i'm not sadistical to give you that worthless answer. Just go for it. Courage is not the absence of fear, but the conquest of fear.
If you know OA is good, and you can do without inlt orientation then do OA!!! Do not let fear stop you!

OA's better

dont hold me on to this...but i think i am going to do OA thing. I mean, meeting 100s of international students would be a great opportunity to 'get to know' some people with different background, but i think the smaller size OA is more conducive to make friends + i have never gone camping in the US...should be fun...
but, again...i might change my stand...

n such...dont u have a sis @ princeton?? if she has some time, she can help u with getting bank accts, ssn, license, etc.

Can't you do OA at any other time of the year?

According to the ISO campus webpage:
International students are strongly encouraged to participate in pre-orientation. Those who wish to participate in Outdoor Action cannot do both but may participate in Outdoor Action trips at other times of the year.
One benefit of the International Orientation is that you'll be right on campus so you'll be able to get things done ahead of everyone else, like buying used books before the mad rush starts the next week... :p Also you can explore Ptown/New York/Philly area and just get used to being in the US. The IO seems to give students many opportunities to meet with university administrators and make important contacts during those first few days, not to mention practical issues like setting up bank accounts, telephone, and ID cards.

Does anyone know the specific details of what exactly is covered in the International Orientation like what you buy during the "substantial shopping" period, and whether you'll be advised on practicalities like which coats are best to buy for cold NJersey weather. These are details that would be particularly important to international students so if anyone can get further info it might help people make a more informed choice rather than just "OA is great chance to make friends so it is therefore better than IO." Did internationals receive information about the International Orientation?

yeah we got some info...its just that OA seems like more fun...a LOT more fun ...I can see where intl pre or comes in useful though

Here I go again sigh

Yeah. I mean, OA offers a great opportunity to bond with your classmates. For international students, it seems to me that that would be a much more assimilatory activity than ISO (although I'm sure that'd be awesome too, but your core group the first couple of weeks would still be international students...which is okay, if that's what you want.).

We'll all be trying to find our way around when we first get there, and having some US friends whom you met on your OA trip (as well as all the other people you'll meet through your rescol and classes) will really help you get settled into life at an American university.

okie...a question...if you already have your bank account, credit card, social security, driving license, cellphone, initial shopping, etc. taken care of...does it make sense to go for ISO?? I plan to (provided i get a visa) get in the US around aug 15th...and for two weeks...all i'd be doing will be running errands, etc..

wht u say??

adides: no, i really don't think it makes any sense to do IpO, provided that you want to do OA as badly as many others here :D...

I'll be in the same situation, kinna. I already have a ssn, i'll have the bank account set up, and i'll have 2 days for initial shoppings + other details... i hope it's gonna be ok

i hear you pavalon...as dr. nash would recommend...we should implement 'co-optition theory' where ppl who really want to go to OA, goes to OA and ppl who need to have the bank accts, ssn, etc attends IPO...end of the day...the intels who go to OA can introduce other intels to their OA buddies...and intels who attend IPO fills the other group on any relevant info...(now ur question is about intels knowing each other...well there are 4 intls from india...and by the time we get to pton...we'll know each other through email, etc....same goes for romania, i'd guess...)
