Arriving on Campus Early

I read somewhere that you can take some credits by coming to the school a few days before actual move in day. Has anyone done this and would you say it's worth it? Thanks.

you can pay to come in a few days before the actual move in date. if the move in date is a Monday, then it is $100 for Saturday arrival and $150 for Friday arrival. There is no moving in on Sunday. Meals would be extra for those days and billed later (if you ate at the cafe).

When S1 was a Freshman, he moved in on the Friday. It was worth it for him to get adjusted. They had a few extra functions on campus for those who started early. The next 2 years, he just went out the regular move in date. those times can be crazy. Then you only get 15 minutes to unload, there are monitors, popo, et al.

Some of the RAPs have an early move in a week before. I do not believe that there is credit given.

I think you are talking about the power-up program:

http://www.comcol.umass.edu/news/texts/powerupconted.pdf

Some kids did it on my floor, I didn’t. I wish I did because it gives you a chance to meet some people before all 20 million of the kids get there and it overwhelms you.

The info on that page is pretty dated - 2007 - so people may want to look for a more up to date page. Thanks for the link though!
