Art at Whitman for Nonmajors

Hi,
We are wondering if anyone on board takes art classes as a nonmajor. DD has a major interest in representational art, but will likely major in science or engineering. Some schools won’t allow nonmajors to take art, or it’s logistically impossible. Feedback??? Thank you!!!

shoot4moon, Whitman does allow non-majors to take art classes. My son was a geology major and took at least two art classes. In a small school with a limited number of seats in each class, I imagine that priority for filling those seats would go to art majors, there might be a case where a non-major wouldn’t get in because of lack of room.

Be aware that while Whitman is well known for having great science and math departments, they do not offer an engineering major except in a 3/2 plan with other schools. Often those who initially were enthused by that program never follow through, for various reasons, probably the main one being that they don’t want to leave senior year.

Thank you, Bopambo! We have known some students from Whitman who are now near retirement, and they still rave about their Whitman education!

I’ve also found Whitties to be loyal and enthusiastic, I hope you can visit. Good luck with the college search!
