Art History AP Exam 2011 hard?

<p>What did you people think of the exam? I have a few questions regarding it.</p>

<p>eh it was ok. what about it?</p>

<p>The second essay was supposed to be art in public space ( sculptures). I used paintings instead. How many points would you got off for writing a wrong essay?</p>

<p>does anyone know if the law code stele of hammurabi was originally in an outdoor location? that’s what i put down. i couldn’t think of anything else.</p>

<p>It was okay to do any medium for the 2nd question I think? It just happened that sculptures and buildings lent themselves most easily.</p>

<p>i don’t think we were allowed to do buildings, but i think sculpture and monuments and the like worked. like i did the law code stele of hammurabi and oldenberg’s shuttlecocks. my friend did the great sphinx.
what did you do for the first essay? I did christ as pantokrator and a sculpture of bhudda.</p>

<p>I did Shiva as Nataraja and Ecstasy of St. Theresa. I didn’t think there’d be much Byzantine art on the test so I didn’t study it that much :(</p>

<p>i HATE byzantine art. it’s my least favorite period. so i kind of neglected to study it just because i hated it so much. so the only icon i could remember was christ as pantokrator cause its freaking creepy. haha.
and ecstasy of great theresa is a really good idea! why didn’t i think of that?!
we only did non-western art the last week and a half before the exam. and even then we only got through islamic art, oceania, and some of japan. so the kids in my class were pretty much screwed when it came to that.</p>

<p>^Yeah our teacher taught us Buddhist art and Hindu stuff pretty well in November, but that was it. If it wasn’t a religion question we wouldn’t have been able to do it at all. And the islamic stuff on the test was all bad for us.</p>

<p>arghhh. i want to know what i got on the exam NOW. not in july. haha.
my teacher is an AP reader and i want her to get our scores ahead of time or something, haha. if only they could do that.</p>

<p>I feel so stupid. I used the painting breakfast scene for the second essay because it viewed by the public eye ( politically critizced).</p>

<p>what did you think of the mini essays? I had trouble with two questions (the architecture one) and the egyptian one although I think I might get some points I wrote that they were located in tombs (Is it ok) and that they helped the dead in their judgements and also preserve the ka. What do you think??
Long essays
First one - I wrote about the Vladimir Virgin and Judgement Before Osiris. For the icon, I talked about how people would basically adore the work and that they believed it had spiritual powers etc. For the papyrus I wrote about the ka (similar to the first frq -.-) but focused more on Egyptian’s beliefs regarding after life and the actual judgement with Osiris and how the weighing of the heart called for rightful lives. The identification was full but I think its a 5/9 hopefully a 6
Second one - I chose Michelangelo’s David and Oldenburg’s Lipstick on Caterpillar Tracks. For David I discussed its placement in piazza della signoria and how that spot was the sociopolitical center of the city-state. I talked about how before Italy was fragmented into warring city-states and that often they would be attacked by other forces. Hence, I wrote about how David represents the Florentines against a mighty power who they could tackle and that its placement in the piazza gave it a civic, even political meaning. For the pop work I wrote that it was placed in a university campus and talked about the turbulence of the 1960s (Vietnam and so). After describing the work itself “make love not war”, I wrote how it held a particular meaning to the students viewing it, as they were the ones capable of changing society in the future and pursuit that ideology. Anyway definitely an 8 on that one
Other than that the multiple choice was oddly easy (I got between 10-15 incorrect) but the short essays were challenging. Lets hope for the best good luck to all!!!</p>

<p>I did David by Michelangelo (symbol of Florentine prosperity / patriotism against Medici’s)</p>

<p>and Vietnam Memorial</p>

<p>Penguin20, it sounds like you did pretty well. I also didnt know the answer to the architecture question</p>

<p>I studied a lot for it so lets hope for the best  stupid architecture -.-
PS - the buildings were physically horrible in my opinion</p>
