So I was reading my art supplement tracking on USPS and it says it got "Refused" and now it's being sent back to my home, which was the return address. I shipped it via express so I had to type in the address as best as I could match the original one (the lines don't allow you to type it in exactly in the order that Stanford wants it). But I also taped the Stanford mailing label onto it for art supplements.

Does anyone know why it was refused? I don't think I did anything wrong, right?

And now that all the offices are closed, the only way I could possibly get it in on time is to re-do the supplement and send it overnight on Monday. Anyone have a similar experience?

NJDS: Where does it say that they only accept normal, uncertified, non-priority mail? I also sent it via express, and have no idea why they would refuse to accept something sent via express. Apparently they don’t accept USPS Certified Mail, but that’s not the same thing.

Pastel: I’m not exactly in your situation, but apparently USPS attempted to deliver my supplement today but couldn’t and left a notice.

when people at a local event asked about how to mail their items, they said just they accept normal “first class mail”. @verdricity: i assume they will just deliver ur supplement on monday when the office is open.

NJDS: That’s good to know. I admit I kind of flipped out when I read Pastel’s post; I’ll still be a little freaked until I get confirmation that it’s actually delivered.

Offices were closed this weekend due to Thanksgiving recess. That would probably be why anything’s been refused. (From Thursday to tomorrow, Sunday)

This is kind of urgent; I’ve never really used USPS, so does anyone know what happens if someone isn’t there to receive the package the first time USPS attempts to deliver? I thought that they would try to deliver again today, but apparently they’re expecting Stanford to go and pick it up, which is probably not going to happen.

Should I try to redeliver, or at this point, to make the Dec. 1 deadline, should I attempt to run off a new set of prints and send that tomorrow?

I’m having a similar problem, only I sent it through DHL. I’m still not clear about this though: does Stanford accept express mail? I really don’t see why they wouldn’t… but still, would they REJECT it completely and refuse to look at it if it’s not normal? ugh. I sent it through DHL International Express and if I hadn’t, it would have taken weeks to get there. (I mailed it last Tuesday, but the DHL guys only shipped it on Friday, which I am really ****ed off about since Switzerland doesn’t even celebrate Thanksgiving)

Anyway I’m debating whether or not to remail it. But I think it might be too late now. If they reject it, I’ll still be considered for RD w/o supplement right?

But seriously, why doesn’t the Stanford website/pdf downloads have these instructions?! grr

kira0113, I’m not sure what to suggest. If you think your supplement would help your application, I’d suggest remailing it if you can’t get DHL to redeliver; even though the arts supplement pdf download says that they have to receive it by Dec. 1, other places on the Stanford site say that that’s just a postmark deadline.

Personally, I think I’m going to run off another set of prints and send it tomorrow, which is now another forty dollars I have wasted attempting to send this thing. Excellent.

it’s dec. 1st 12;19 am here and even if I send it through normal mail it won’t get post marked until a couple of days after. why would they reject it? If the art supplement doesn’t arrive on time, my whole application is going to look incomplete since I mentioned art so much in my essays. oh my god.

I don’t think Stanford will reject it because it’s express mail; I think NJDS was referring to certified mail. kira0113, did your supplement arrive and was refused, like the OP, or do you not know whether it has arrived at California at all?

the tracking thing says it is still in LA (since 29th) hopefully it will get to Stanford on time, or if it just have to be postmarked by Dec 1st that wouldn’t matter
I’m just going to let this go and focuse on my oral exam that is tomorrow… I sent them an email earlier today about this but haven’t received anything yet. good luck on sending your art supplement!

It is a postmark deadline, i.e, if you put it in the mail before Dec 1st (your time), you are not late. Even if it takes two weeks to get there, your art supplement will be evaluated (as long as you have also submitted your common app and stanford supplement by Dec 1st too.

but do you think hard copy of my supp be rejected because I used international express? :S I’m kind of over the frantically panicking stage but I still want to make sure :D

I honestly don’t think so. Actually, USPS just updated its website and told me that it delivered. Apparently it had actually delivered a bit earlier and just neglected to tell me, leading me to panic XP

Anyways, I used express and was fine. I’m sure your supplement will also be OK.

yay! wow that was really mean of them. I’m glad they got your supplement though
haha I guess all I have to do now is just wait until mine gets there, knowing that they’ll accept it. thanks for your help :D

Sorry I made you guys worry this much! It honestly wasn’t my intention. I got my supplement back in the mail after it was refused and then I just mailed it out again through the post office via express (again) and it made it. I think postage probably just messed it up, but I’m thankful that I was still able to fix it in time–it arrived in Stanford this afternoon.

My app’s submitted though at 12/2 where I live, just 30 mins before midnight in Palo Alto. Good luck guys!!

nah, not your fault DHL messed this up for me, grr
But I called Stanford and they gave me an email address so I emailed them asking for confirmation and they said my supplement arrived I submitted my common app on the 30th of Nov. though just to be sure!
Now we have to wait… x_x
