As an adult, do you like dressing up for a Halloween gathering?

I guess I am a fuddy dud, but I really don’t like trying to put together a costume for Halloween. Our run group decided on a last-minute theme - 80’s fitness - for their usual pub run that is happening tonight. I do think it is fun theme, but the idea came late - maybe Sunday. Frantically running around (nothing much on Amazon that I could get in time) from store to store trying to piecemeal something together was not appealing to me, so I am just skipping it. For some reason that kind of thing makes me feel pressured. Dh will go, and just not wear a costume. He doesn’t care. I always feel compelled to if it is truly a costume-wearing event.

We did such a major downsize, I don’t have any spare space for costume-y junk, and I don’t really want to spend the money on it. So, put me in the no-fun category when it comes to dressing up for Halloween.

How about you?

Zero interest!

Most things planned last minute ticks me off. If I had 2-3 weeks then I’d probably enjoy a costume search. Maybe. But 3 days? That would irritate me. I’d skip it, too.

But….I’m a pretty crusty person the last 2 years so it doesn’t take much to get me irritated and/or want to avoid people. Hubby says I’m preparing for my later years when I will sit on the front porch and scream at people if their dogs come on my yard.

I’m not THAT bad. Hah.

I have never been a fan of dressing in a costume. I love handing out candy to the kids in my neighborhood and seeing THEM in costume, but not me. Some of my neighbors dressed up with their kids when we had the pre-trick or treating driveway parties, but never me! Thankfully we have only been invited to a couple of adult parties during our marriage and kindly declined (fortunately my husband feels the same way).

I also don’t go crazy with Halloween or any other “themed” holiday decor outside. My porch has a nice display of pumpkins, gourds, mums, etc but not all the crazy stuff some people put up. Some of it is fun, but much of it is too tacky for me.

No and unpopular opinion, I dislike everything about Halloween

But my daughter loves it. Still dresses up and bought her dog a costume. I did not pass along my dislike fortunately

I dressed up when my D was little but once she was out of elementary school, the costumes were happily retired.

As a kid I loved Halloween for the candy. I hated dressing up. I would do so to get the candy. Not much has changed. It’s all about the candy for me. I like seeing other kids dressed up. I like people decorating their houses, and I did ours until covid hit. This year I will give out candy and put out a couple of things so people know we are participating. But dressing up myself? Nope. And dressing up for work or an event? Definitely no.

The event wasn’t last-minute - the particular costume theme was. Some people in the FB group were panicky earlier today - “Is it okay if our costumes aren’t 80s themed?” Lol. Too much pressure. No one cares. I’m sure it would be fine if I didn’t wear anything, but then I feel like I’m a party-pooper or coming across as take it some sort of stance on Halloween (which I’m not).

Dh has on his bright orange Jack-o-Lantern t-shirt he bought at Walmart a few years ago, so he isn’t wearing a true costume, and it isn’t 80s themed.

I guess I’m the outlier but I like drsssing up for Halloween. We have a super fun neighborhood Halloween party (adults only) every year and each year it has a different theme. Movies, TV shows, year you were born, famous singers, etc. It’s a blast. But I know tons of people who hate to dress up and that’s fine too….just don’t come to our party without a costume.

My daughter and SIL’s Baby shower is on Halloween, and it was requested to wear a costume. I was in Walmart and saw a onesie cat pajamas, complete with tail. Well I bought it as their cat’s name is baby, so I’m claiming ignorance saying I thought it was a party for fur Baby. There will be about 20 people in person and more on zoom, so they have requested masks. Not sure if I should just wear a black one or make cat’s nose and whiskers on another

Oh well then I’d just consider wearing anything that felt fun to wear. Literally.

Go to the party. If you want. Tell then you are a book character and let them figure it out.

Whoever names someone you think is cool, say, “Bingo”! And high five them:

Wear smthg that you love and don’t usually wear.

I’m just rambling. Do what you want, but hey life is short maybe consider getting out of house?!

I’m totally projecting here. But I love the threads that you start so I want to support and encourage you.

Never did, never will.

Do you still want to go? Has it happened yet? Super easy to just cut the neck out of an old t-shirt or sweatshirt taking up space in your closet so it falls off your should ala FlashDance. Add a headband or make one out of the cutoff part and voila it’s 80s fitness! Just wear leggings or shorts and you’re good. https://www.amazon.com/Forum-Novelties-Officially-Licensed-Flashdance/dp/B07C3LSVF9/

I usually dress up “festive” every Halloween. I have a shirt with skeletons on it and sometimes wear a cape. Maybe a witch hat. But I don’t do much more than that.

Ha ha thanks.

Well, it is for run group, so they will be running (or at least walking), so it’s not like I can just wear a cute outfit. They will run about a mile and a half and then bar hop their way back from where they started. Instead of a pub crawl, it’s a pub run. I dropped dh off, so he can imbibe all he wants. He’ll text me when they are finished.

I just dropped dh off. I’ll enjoy my night at home, but thank you for the suggestion

I don’t love dressing up in costume, but I don’t really hate it either.

My issue is that I am not particularly creative in this way. I’m not into craft type activities or sewing so it’s tough for me to throw a costume together. I find it stressful.

This is exactly why I never liked dressing up for Halloween. I hate trying to come up with an idea, I hate that I’m not creative enough to figure out how to make or put together something myself, and I hate wasting lots of money on a storebought costume I would never wear again.

I don’t really love the process of building a costume. I def don’t want to go to a Halloween party!

What I will do though is wear something fun to work the last day before Halloween - which is tomorrow because I’m off Friday. I work on a campus of a children’s hospital and while we can’t (Covid) do the usual Halloween parade and all, I will wear a grey and white stripes Athleta ire skirt, a bright orange nicer sweatshirt, black leggings and a pair of black athletic shoes with purple trim. Fun and festive but not a costume.

I do make my dog wear a costume for Trick or Treat night!

When my kids were young, like maybe 1st and 3rd grade, they saw ketchup and mustard (adult) costumes at Target, and that’s what they wanted to be. Well, my aunt had to hem them, but they worked fine, and I’ve rarely purchased another costume since (kids are out of college). I’m hopeful that if we ever have to go to a costume party, we can wear those costumes. A well spent 50 bucks, but nope, I don’t dress up either, and I haven’t been ketchup or mustard.

I love dressing up for Halloween. We bought new costumes this year and my almost 40 year old self plans to ring the doorbell at my parents house because my mom said she’s not expecting any trick or treaters. LOL.

I also dressed up in both of our costumes for our virtual costume party at work yesterday (which I was the creator of…)
