Not at all about costumes, but our newscaster called today the start of Halloweekend, so with that spirit in mind, I opened the bag of candy I always buy just in case we get trick or treaters (never have) and we each ate a piece.
The rest will have to wait until Sunday - just in case.
I don’t like costumes and particularly don’t like face paint.
My kids loved dress up and Halloween was just another excuse to dress up. It was rare that they only had one costume as they’d go to multiple parties, Boo at the Zoo, trick or treating at a block of stores near their school, and of course ‘regular’ trick or treating. They didn’t wear costumes to school. We went to Disney one year just before Halloween and of course they needed multiple costumes for that (Alice, Esmeralda, Raggedy Ann, Mulan)
Saddest year for me was when they said they wanted ‘costumes from the store’ as I always made theirs. They learned their lesson and the next year I was back to making them.
My own kid was always a challenge re: Halloween. She had very specific requests about costumes. When she was four or five she wanted to be a stegasaurus. So I made her a stegasaurus costume complete with fins going down the tail that dragged behind her. That costume was worn by every kid on the street and not just for Halloween. It was repaired with duct tape many times. One year she wanted to be a Guinea pig. There was the year that her costume involved breaking open light sticks and smearing the contents on whatever she was wearing. No wonder I’m done with it. If she had kids I might have gotten back into the madness but so far I’m off the hook.
