Ok, so I have to pick between UMich and IU in about two days so I am panicking a little. I know this is the UMich forum, but any insight would be great!
Basic Info
I am an AA female
I got into the direct admit/pre admit business programs at both schools
Umich has better fin aid for this year (full tuition), but only $15000 is renewable scholarships while $28000 is scholarships for IU (so basically iu’s tution is more stable)
IU
Both my sisters go to IU ( this is a pro not a con) and one is at Kelley and loves it
I have visited IU but not UMich
More stable fin aid
I have family/friends in Indiana
Kelley LLC
UMICH
Ross is higher ranked than Kelley
Less people at Ross so more resources
UMich is significantly higher ranked than IU: this is impt bc I dont want to do business only, so the programs at UMich would be better
Extreme school spirit, which I love
I have heard really good things about campus
Invited to this “summer connection program”
Residential College
So basically both programs seem fantastic and I would hate to regret my choice. What would you do? If you have been in a similar situation before, what did you do, and do you regret it? I will be posting on both schools’ forums for more insight.
Thanks!
Oh, and any current UMich students, what do you think of campus? Is it pretty/ugly, too big/small, etc?
Definitely Umich. Umich is an academic powerhouse in all areas not just ross. The Ross Business school BBA program is amazing and has great connections in the Midwest and Northeast especially in Chicago and New York. The Umich campus is really nice and Ann Arbor is a great college town. you truly cannot go wrong with a Michigan education. The Residential College in East Quad is great, and spirit and sports and social life is huge at Umich. Everyone I know who is at Umich loves their experience.
Thx for the insight! I’ll definitely be considering it!
Direct admit into Ross, cheaper option, and you are hesitant? Go for Michigan and do not look back.
If finances allow, I would choose Michigan. It has a better overall ranking, better college town, similar/better social experience as IU, and more engaged alumni.
So, outside of the $15k renewable scholarship from Mich, the rest is need-based financial aid? If so, it will remain the same IF your financial circumstances remain relatively unchanged in the subsequent three years. If your family wins the Power Ball next year, or one of your parents gets a job at Goldman Sachs, or you get a large inheritance from your great aunt—then all bets are off.
Both business programs are very good while Ross does rank higher. Indiana University’s in-state total cost is around $25k (https://admissions.indiana.edu/cost-financial-aid/tuition-fees.html ). $28k for 4 years or 1 year ? 8->
@brantly That’s exactly the problem lol. My income for 2016 is entirely different than 2015, which is the year they asked for on the FAFSA…
@enjoyourlife I am an out-of-state student for both colleges so the tuition is higher. It would be $28k each year.
Thanks for the input everyone! I think I have decided to go with UMich.
If it’s affordable (and it sounds like it iso in fact it sounds like it’s cheaper than IU?) I’d go with Ross and Michigan. Better overall, greater access and resources, plus Residential College for a ready-made tight-knit community and more opportunities overall.
Michigan hands down. Who cares about Kelly, only IU people. The rest of the world care about Ross.
