Hey, does anyone know what percentage of Asians that apply are admitted to Yale?

I doubt Yale would risk disclosing such information.

Given that some Asians may not report their ethnicity and the lower than normal accept rate for internationals in general, I would suspect that Asians have less than the overall 7.5%. That’s a logical conclusion, dontcha think?

I don’t believe that Yale has released this. At MIT, however, the Asian admit rate is slightly higher than the overall rate, so that could be an indication for Yale.

Are you guys including International asians such as China, or just American Asians, or both?

StarsAligned, I meant just American Asians.
Wait, are you allowed to not report your ethnicity?

You are afforded the legal right of omitting the race category if you wish. It is unclear, however, how this affects your chances.

Wouldn’t it make your chances better, cuz it hurts your chances if you’re Asian?

^ Well, it is somewhat misleading to say that being Asian hurts one’s chances. In fact, as I indicated above, it appears that Asians are accepted at a rate greater than the overall admit rate. In any case, it is not logically or statistically supported that omitting the category increases one’s chance.

haha I’m confused.
If Asians are accepted at a greater rate than the overall admit rate, then why is everyone saying that it’s hard to get in if you’re Asian?

Because the Asian applicant pool tends to be stronger overall, at least with respect to quantitative factors.

yup, I’m dead.

No you’re not. I’m Asian w/OK SATs and good but not the top GPA at my rigorous HS. But I was a very compelling story – and that’s what got me into Yale and peer colleges. It sure wasn’t my SATs!!!

^

You’re an Asian parent?! I was always under the impression that you were white, lol.

I’m not a parent of college age kids. My oldest is entering 8th grade. I’m an alum interviewer/recruiter.

BTW: my DD would love to attend Yale. She loved it when I took the family for my 15th reunion.

LOL: How do my posts exhibit “caucasianess”? hahaha

well, you can not report but honestly, between your name and if it gets mentioned anywhere else in your app, what difference does it make? I don’t have definitive population demographics for Asian Americans but since we make up around 3-5% of the US population and we make up 10-30% in the top 50 schools, it can be argued that Asians are overadmitted(we are also drilled into being hardworking students and trained to take tests in deep dark cellars with parents standing guard with whips right? ) I highly doubt that any college will release the actual admit statistics of any ethnicity because of Affirmative Action, etc.

T26E4, I agree with you, but then again, it may also be that Yale was easier to get into in your day, probably not for Asians though…
