Comments:

I feel like my study abroad program to Japan during the summer of 2008 is going to help me a lot and I'm really proud that I got a scholarship from the Japanese government to go. I also have a passion for Japanese language and culture and I was able to test out of Japanese I and Japanese IV. I also have been active in Japanese club and was named vice president at the end of my junior year.

I also think my math is strong and I have taken Honors Algebra I and Honors Geometry both in 8th grade, starting on an accelerated level. I also am happy about being an MMPC finalist.

I have no volunteer hours whatsoever.

Thanks again!

dude, why do you even have to post. you’re already in, you nerd!
hahaha, but real talk, go outside or something instead of cramming on those SAT books.

Match… You also have a shot at winning a scholarship to. Good Luck!

Engineering, math, and business are all in different schools within Michigan. You’re probably in for LSA (math) or Engineering, but I doubt you’ll be preadmit to Ross.

highly likely to get accepted~

You might want to apply to some community college just as back ups…
JKJK

Honestly, your in (to LSA and probably CoE). You didn’t need to make a chance thread (I mean good GPA + Decent ACT + Legacy = in)

“dude, why do you even have to post. you’re already in, you nerd!

I know I had good enough stats, but I’m anxious because im pretty sure a lot of other people have similar stats as I do. Plus, I obviously dont know how U of M’s acceptance is (for example everyone knows ivy league schools are unpredictable in admissions)

I have a question that I hope it could get answered.

If I apply for CoE and not get in, will U of M offer admission into LSA? Or are you rejected from U of M no questions asked? Everyone knows that CoE is difficult to get into.

Jstar, I got into Engineering while being worse in almost every fashion (I had a slightly higher GPA, but a much easier class load). You’re very likely to get into Engineering, especially if you apply early.

If you are rejected from Engineering however, they will not offer you admission to LSA. However if you apply early, you will hear before Christmas if you were admitted, deffered, or rejected. If you were rejected you could reapply to LSA before Feb 1st. If you were deffered, you could switch your application to LSA before Feb 1st.

yay thanks for clarifying!

Well before I can talk about which college to apply, my dillema is that I don’t even know what to major in. And I’m not sure if I really want to do engineering.

But people can apply twice to the same college in the same year? I didnt no that. And I also didnt know that you could switch colleges when deferred…

I would double check everything you read here on the UM website yourself, and clarify anything pertinent with an adviser. They will gladly give prospective students information. I have discovered all kinds of inconsistencies throughout the internet, including on the UM website, that could have seriously sabotaged my application process. They may also be able to help you figure out which school to apply to, some of the transfer processes are easier from particular schools to others and they can give you that info so if you do pick the wrong thing you will know how to go about switching later.

I was lucky enough when I applied that everything I was considering fell into LSA.

Then I suggest you apply to LSA if you don’t know what you want to major in. Why? Because LSA has a vast variety of majors and subject you can explore. There are a wider range of class than CoE. If you go into CoE, the only major you can go into are engineering. So if you find out you hate engineering, then you have to stick with it until you can transfer. However, with LSA, you can explore a lot more subjects. I personally think it would be best for you to apply to LSA if you don’t have a specific major in mind and you don’t know if you really want to do engineering.

Oh and if you do decided to do engineering, you can always internally transfer. It isn’t really hard. As long as you maintain higher than a 3.2 and you take the required courses.

^^The min GPA is not 3.2. It depends on your major, but you can transfer from LSA to COE with as low as a 2.5.

It’s easier to transfer from Engineering to LSA than vice-versa if you do decide to transfer though.

^thats what I was about to say. My friends at U of M say its hard to transfer from LSA –> CoE and that theres a bunch of paperwork involved.

Yes, but the reason why I said that is so that the OP knows that he can go into any field in engineering with a 3.2 GPA. The 3.2 is the highest minimum GPA needed (if you want to go into BME, you need a 3.2).
(I said that so the OP can aim higher so it won’t be a problem for him to get into CoE. It’s like training 5 miles for a 3 mile race, you’ll be ready)

And it is easier to transfer to LSA. The GPA needed is only 2.0

You have a great chance of getting in, apply early and good luck.
