<p>Everywhere I go in my school, I see the asian stereotypes. First, I see either the nerdy asian girl who always seems overly shy, gets good grades, wear a ponytial, no makeup or attention to hair and stuff. Then I see the asian whose popular, pretty, white-washed but gets mediocre grades. </p>
<p>How can I prevent from being any of these extremes? I want to be a mix of this. Not too asian, not too twinkie. I want to be me but i keep getting group into one or the other.</p>
come on dude... you have to have more courage than that to be yourself. as long as your not selfconscious about not acting "Asian" then people will respect it.</p>
<p>LOL
Twinkie...everyone here says Banana...
Well I'm forever more Asian then half the Asian kids at my school and I'm only half. I am also more Mexican then many Mexican kids at my school...and I;m only half!
What I do is just sort of let things roll, I mean if everyone hates me thats their problem...
I always put grades ahead of anything but I'm no sit in the corner nerd. I speak both my native tongues to people who are from a similar background as me.
many Asians (and Mexicans for that matter) have lost their ability to speak their language. Don't lose your language, put grades ahead of everything else, and let your popularity go up or down as it pleases...don't try to be something you're not. The 'Twinkies' really get on my nerves, but so do the FOBs...haha just do what you do ya know?
you 1-3 years of high school left of popularity will not compare to your next 4 years in college or you education for the REST of your life.</p>
<p>i used to be a coconut my frosh and soph yrs but now i have balanced my friendship with all races.....who cares wat others think..do what you feel is right</p>
<p>lol, the last two valedictorians from my school were asians (streak that's about to break this year...) who got into harvard and brown. They were what you'd call "maaaaaaaad yellow", although the harvard one was at least semi-twinkie.</p>
<p>When someone asks, "What nationality are you?" I always respond, "American."</p>
<p>I'm Filippino, but don't know anything about the Philippines. My grandpa/great grandpa was there during WW2, hated it, and came to the U.S. Our relatives own a lot of land there, but my family (immediate family) have no desire to go short of a week long vacation.</p>
<p>I have crazy hair, and that's not an "anime" influence. Quite frankly, I hate anime. Which is weird how some people assume that all Asian people lurv it to death. I'm also horrible at math and physics (chemistry and biology I pwn).</p>
<p>Actually, I know a few here who were actually quite sociable and wore makeup but still ended up taking tons of AP classes and ranking in the top of the class. You definitely don't have to be one extreme- I say just be who you are.</p>
<p>The absolute worst instance of racism for me came because of that ******* Seung-hui Cho and the VT shootings.</p>
<p>Just for being Asian and wanting to be an English/Film major, I got random harrassment from kids I don't know and even a janitor. But my friends were tight.</p>
<p>Other than that, I've always been okay with everyone.</p>
<p>lol @ Fil-am dude...
Haha, I hate Anime too.
At least your full blooded peep don't have to put up with two stereotypes.
I get called lots of stuff... like Rice taco...
I do like rice though...I used to be into Pokemon and stuff like that too...I guess I'm a little Twinkie...but like I still have my roots and I never forget them. So I'm a rotten Banana (since I'm Mexican, and rotten bananas have brown spots) lol which is all brown and disgusting yellow on the inside..but if you remove all the crap you get a think slice of good white banana...which is still sort of yellow anyways.
yup...thats me!</p>
<p>go where your heart lies, not where the wind sways</p>
<p>seriously, do whatever makes you happy and be whoever you know yourself to be. i dont mean to sound cliche here, but what's the use of pretending to be something just to fit in? you have a unique personality, and whether it falls into the nerdy-smart-shy category or the popular-pretty-moderatelysmart category is just coincidental. if i learned something from my 3yrs of middleschool and 4 yrs of highschool is to take what the silly preteenage/teenage peers think & say and flush it down the drain. and once that's out of the way, go out and be who you really are.</p>
