Not necessarily. Some colleges do award credit and/or placement based on those scores. "Placement" is basically being given a more advanced or honors class which is generally harder or more accelerated than a normal class. If you can get good scores on the tests and you can afford to pay the cost for taking them, then go for it! Good luck! :)

By the way, this should probably be in the Subject Tests sub-forum...

To back up sgk1234, some colleges award course credit for certain scores. That is the only reason I'm taking them. I mean really, which would you prefer, Having to make a 5 on the AP Chem test or getting a 720+ on the SATII exam? They get you the same amount of credit but one is a little bit easier =)

Generally they are not used for placement, however, some school advisors may suggest one course over another based on the scores because they thing it matches your skills better.

You have five groups of colleges: (a) those that require SAT IIs for admission and thus use them for admission; (b) those that recommend IIs for admission and thus will also use them for determination of admission; (c) those that will "consider" SAT IIs for admission and thus may give them some weight in admission particularly if you are a borderline candidate; (d) those that use IIs for placement (and these may or may not be among the prior groups) and may or may not give some credit for them; for example, there are some schools in particular that either require or recommend IIs in language for placement and sometimes give some credit; these colleges will not use the IIs for admission at all unless they say otherwise and usually IIs don't even have to be taken or submitted until after the decision for admission has been made; (e) the majority of colleges that neither require nor use IIs for anything; most public schools are in that group and it is useless to submit IIs to them because they will be ignored. As to any particular college, you need to check with it what it does which usually appears on its website.

I don't know of any use for the SAT2 tests other than for college purposes. They are needed for admissions for some colleges and are often considered at some schools that do not require them. They are also sometimes used for placement in courses.

Though the SAT1 scores sometimes come up in job situations, I don't know of a case where the SAT2 scores would be of interest other than for college.
