HAHA. Thanks. That is definitely a huge plus then. Since I’ll be needing the practice, you can guess who I will be befriending ;)

what’s your favorite color?

can’t say garnet or gold :P

:) the sororities are classy in what way?

Well let’s just say they aren’t all what people might say they are. They have decency to them and always strive to prove it.

Is there any that you recommend?

That depends on the type of sorority you are looking for. There are multicultural sororities, which seem to be the more popular ones among people who like diversity, and then there are the other ones which co-exist with the more conservative/liberal focused frats

How is the Landis dorm in terms of quality of the rooms and socially? And how prevalent is the partying/drinking on campus?

Foxfire- I’m a junior at the moment, and im in a fraternity at fsu, it would be easier to reccomend a sorority based on what your looking for, your interest/hobbies, the type of people you like to hangout

while a sorority is a great tool for networking, meeting people, and getting ahead in life, you still have to be around these people constantly and get the right feel and vibe from this people…I really encourage everyone to join greek life. While it may have a bad rep., atleast i came in viewing it very negatively it was my best decision.

trevorlongstreet, in terms of a dorm landis is probably in the top 3, in terms of comfort and luxury lol, but socially it is lacking, location is great. Alot of the kids are in honors and thus are a little less social and more geared towards classwork. In terms of the social dorms alot of the older dorms tend to be more open and alot more people make friends while living in these dorms. I personally have lived in gilchrist and degraff both of which were social but at the same time could be really quiet.

In terms of drinking and partying on campus, it all depends on you…if you like to drink and party you could do that every day if you wanted to, I know i drank 4 days a week my freshman year but alot of my other friends wouldn’t drink at all, it all depends on your personality and the people you associate with, your in college so within reason you get to do whatever you want.

blueskymom-“do you know anyone who took part in the byran hall living learning community - and how they felt about it?”

I did the degraff social science llc, back when I was a freshman, it was quite an experience and while most of the people who did it would make fun of the dumb things we had to do, and conflicts happenend it really has helped me out in terms of reccomendations, internships, and the people you live with become your friends…if i had the chance I would do it again

How big is fraternity life at FSU? Can you still get into fraternity parties even if you’re not a part of Greek life? When I went to ASU, the major fraternities only let brothers and girls in. Brothers were allowed to have their friends come, but you couldn’t just show up and pay a fee and hope to get in.

What do you consider the top 3 fraternities at FSU?

How much are student tickets for sporting events?

Do a lot of people attend the baseball games?

Are there clubs near campus?

Well greek life in general is pretty big, but fraternity life is growing faster than sororities…

ifc- which are the ones you see in most movies, have 23 different organizations, and recently a 24 was added for next fall in Zeta beta tau(the fraternity described in the movie animal house). I wouldn’t be surprised if we stop at 25 fraternities for awhile.

I dont like talking about which fraternities are the best because thats so subjective and it depends on the type of person you are and your personality but the five biggest fraternities are…

-Pi Kappa Alpha-AKA Pike, largest continous fraternity house in the nation, over 180 brothers. Known as the jocks and party boys, most well known
-Lambda Chi Alpha-AKA Lambda chi- one of the largest fraternity houses in the nation over 150 brothers, considered for having alot of money and a very good amount of parties every semester, sick house.
-Phi Delta Theta- largest fraternity house complex in the nation- over 140 brothers, kinda quiet, known to be the smoker types
-Delta tau Delta- over 160 brothers, big time jocks, big rivalry with pike
-Phi Kappa Tau- smaller house, upincoming over 130 brothers

In terms of parties during the summer everyone is allowed to go to frat parties, but when it comes to tailgating, socials, parties, house parties, formals etc. unless your a girl and usually a pretty girl or a friend the rule is dont try it, chances are alot of the brothers wont like it, I know when we threw our last month we kicked out a bunch of guys trying to sneak in, its just not cool. we pay alot of money for these things…

student tickets are free.
clubs are within walking distance from your dorms…

anymore questions?

Another thread hijacked. I don’t think it’s avoidable :/

Do you or your friends have a part-time job?

satscholar why do you keep saying that. do you want to be the only person who can respond or something

Does FSU recalculate your high school GPA and do they count the writing portion of the SAT when considering applicants?

^ Yes and yes

One last question and thank you for the answer. Can a high SAT forgive a low gpa? (2010)(3.3)?

Is that an unweighted GPA? If so, yes. If you have a solid list of ECs and/or a good essay, you shouldn’t have a problem getting in.

It is unweighted. Weighted isn’t much better though. I’m a victim of the people that didn’t start taking stuff seriously till they found CC and as such, not to many honors or AP. A good essay is not a problem. EC’s perhaps. They are OK but not “I cant believe he did all of that!!” type. You get me? Lots of community service though. Thank you for your thoughts anyhow. They helped out.
