Ask a current UCSB student anything :)

Hey guys, thanks a lot for your advice. I think a shortie on the scholars floor strikes the perfect balance. Thanks!

My girlfriend is going to ucla and im going to sb. Is it gonna be tough to see each other ?

1, maybe 1.5 hours away from each.

@demonios
no problem, but keep in mind that there will still be people in the scholars hall who want to party. I know that 4 of my friends are going to UCSB and plan on living in the scholars floor in the shorties, and of them, one of them parties, 3 of them don’t. But it’s really up to you. you can go on the roommate search page on facebook to find similar minded people. I know that there are a few people looking for roommates that are planning on living in the scholars floor there. I think that finding a likable roommate would be better for you than by going the random roommate route.

here is the link for the facebook UCSB roommate search page

Honors Floor
Okay so I actually live on the honors floor in Anacapa right now and here’s my experience. Our floor goes the hardest out of any girls floor in Anacapa. For girls, you generally get a really good balance of girls who party but also want to do well in school. It’s a little different for guys they tend to be a little less into partying if their on the scholars floor but I have plenty of friends on the guys scholars floor that party with us all the time so it really depends. You’ll find people to party with and not party with no matter what floor you live on.

Is a small double big enough to be comfortable?

So i really want to take my truck to UCSB b/c i would like to go home from time to time and i live about 2 hours away. I was wondering if i didnt get a parking permit for my dorm, if i could buy a permit for Santa Catalina and just park there. My truck would just sit there for most of the time, unless i needed to go home. I was just wondering if i could buy a permit for Santa Catalina, even if i live in Santa Cruz, then just ride a skate board or something to my dorm?

No, to apply for one online you need a Santa Catalina (FT) reservation. Find someone who lives in FT and arrange it with them.

Business
Okay so most of you probably know we don’t have a business major here, just Econ and accounting. It still works just as well for going into business but no well established business firm is going to hire you without having gone to grad school. Pre business majors here are very well respected but that doesn’t mean you won’t need an MBA for firms.

Doubles and Triples
Generally doubles and triples are the same size. Double are a lot more spacious obviously but triples are very manageable. Either way, it’s a dorm room. It’s not going to be luxurious no matter which you have but you get used to it and you definitely will have enough room no matter what.

Parking Spaces
Parking by your dorm is about 600 a year. If you live in ft you can’t get a space in the chi 5 and vice versa. You can get a space by harder stadium though which is a lot farther but significantly cheaper. That’s what a friend of mine does and she just bikes there when she needs to use her car and bikes back once she’s done. It’s really not that bad of a bike ride from campus especially if you only do it occasionlally.

A small double is two people in a “single” room, and the cheapest dorm option. I was asking about this

A triple is the cheapest by about 4000 dollars

Maybe it’s a new option? There’s single, standard double, small double, and triple

Yeah I definitely haven’t heard about that but all the rooms in the chi 5 area are standard doubles for the most part I don’t know of any that have single sized rooms except in manzi

What SAT/ACT score did you get in with?

Is it true that the school closes all dorms for breaks between quarters, like for christmas, summer, etc?

^ You can pay an additional fee to stay during the summer. There is summer session. The school allows students (usually international) who can’t go home to stay during winter break.

Question: The directory for open jobs (Gaucho Link) isn’t available to new students until the first week of class. Does this mean we freshman and transfers have to wait until the first week to try and get a job? I feel like we won’t have as good a chance.

SAT: 2180
10char

so i have chosen to live in Santa Cruz and was wondering what the mean by single gender wings. I read somewhere that girls and guys are directly across the hall, or is it like guys on one hall(both sides) and girls on the other hall(both sides)
