I would recommend some extra padding. My parents insisted that we buy these casing type things for the mattress and our pillows to keep any potential bugs out. Over that we put the covering with padding.

Also, if you are in Cromwell you may also need some tension rods on which to hang the curtains in the bathroom.

@closham what’s your prospective major?

And I have a question. Are Gen Bio and Chem weed out classes at TCNJ? I heard they are at other schools and was wondering if that was the same thing here.

cometstarg,
my prospective major is special education

Also, for gen chem it says I need Chemistry by Burdge 2nd edition… I made plans to buy the book and an Aris card for cheap, but found out that the book I was going to buy is the 1st edition. Do you think that will make much of a difference?

Closham-you have really good stats, and I think you have a good chance of getting in. I personally would never apply ED anywhere, and didn’t, would rather apply early and find out early with school that had rolling admissions or EA, but if you really believe it’s the best school for you then go ahead as long as you know there’s no turning back if you get in

thank you cometstarg!!
and yes, i definitely want to go to TCNJ. couldn’t picture myself anywhere else : )

@closham I think you’ll probably get in, especially since you’re applying ED.

@cometstarg bio 185 isn’t a weedout unless you get one certain professor. chem 201 is kinda a weed out class since a good amount of the profs are kinda hard. The honors one, if you’re doing that, is good though I hear. And you should get the edition they tell you to to be safe. Or maybe you can email the prof.

Also if anyone is interested, I can sell them my bio185 textbook. It’s softcover and the international edition but it’s the same thing and it’ll be a lot cheaper.

The only way I would consider bio185 to be a weedout is if you are looking at it through amount of effort put in. I found that with bio185 it wasn’t really the material that was hard, but rather the amount of work/studying. If you are not willing to make some effort and work hard you will not make it through the bio program.

I was in honors chem 201 and 202 and it was pretty good. While the material was hard (at least for me it was, keep in mind my high school chem experience left A LOT to be desired) the professor was excellent. Unfortunately I have heard some not so great things about some of the gen chem professors. I did hear that Hussain (chem NOT bio) was good though.

I would definitely email your professor about the edition. While I tend to go the “better to be safe than sorry” route sometimes the edition really does not matter (as was the case with my Eukaryotic Cell class).

Yeah I have yet to be assigned a professor for Chem 201 Lecture, but I have Hussain for lab. Any idea as to when I finally find out who I have? Or is it just gonna be some kind of surprise for the first day lol

You should find out before the first class (but don’t quote me on that lol). My chem and bio185 professors didn’t show up until a few weeks before move in day last year and I am still missing a professor for one of my classes for this semester

sigh i wanted to have everything done and over with already and thought i did, until it turned out that the person i was buying my book from had the older edition so now i have to find another source for my textbook on somewhat limited funds. if i had a teacher at least i would know what to do now, idk if its worth getting the latest edition or not

Hi! I’m glad to hear good reviews on honors gen chem1. now i’m getting excited for that class…

Now on to my question: I recently bought my bio themes book, but because it’s used, it didn’t come with the online “Mastering Biology” access code. Is it worth it to purchase a new code or should i be fine without it?

@ cometstarg: I am in the same class as you lol with the lecture/lab hussain issue - I actually e-mailed my academic advisor and asked her if Hussain was going to be teaching both (when i initially signed up for it he was both) she didnt have an answer so she recommended i e-mail the chem dept. chair

So i e-mailed him about this issue and he actually told me that Dr. Hussain will NOT be teaching lab and lecture in the fall … He sed he would be repleaced by “Dr. Thuy Le” - i have no clue who this person is maybe he’s a new professor. was dissappointed that Hussain no longer will teach it i heard hes good

@ hazeleyez: have you ever heard of him

hazeleyez, went shopping for a fan and found too many. which one did you get? Was it one you put on a desk or dresser and how small or big? thanks

*cometstarg… sorry i don’t have any better advice for you. this is just one of the many reasons why i absolutely HATE college books. most of the time the edition will not make that much of a difference however there’s always those few exceptions

*biobabe: i would hold off on purchasing the new code until you are positive you will need it (your professor will let you know by the first class and if he/she doesn’t then ask). my themes class had a few homework assignments that needed to be completed online so i did need the code (there were also a lot of great little videos for review). also, do you know who your prof for honors chem is yet? is it krichten?

*therealdeal: unfortunately i have not heard of him.

*jayalert: i bought one of the tower fans. it stands lower to the ground and is almost rectangular in shape. i would recommend a big fan to cool the entire room. your room is going to get pretty hot and the windows in the towers are not the greatest (the ones in cromwell are better IMO). now, when you get your roommate assignment you can coordinate with them and decide on who wants to get what. my roommate brought a smaller clip-on fan for her desk but we ended up attaching it to my bed. i’m not sure if i said this on here but if you bunk the beds be sure that the fan will reach the person on the top bunk!

@therealdeal21 ughhh i picked that chem section because hussain was teaching it and it fit into my schedule. maybe this guy is new, he’s not on ratemyprofessers. he better be a good one.

@HazelEyez thanks anyway :)

yeah he’s most likely new or adjunct (and usually the adjunct tend to be a little easier but you never know)

ok that’s a good idea to wait for the code…and yes i do have krichten!

You should like Krichten. She teaches well and is always willing to help. My friend has her now for the summer and says she finds her to be a bit intimidating because she is so particular about sig figs and she literally sees everything in lab (who can blame her; proper lab technique is very important) but she really wants her students to succeed and I thought she was fair. She gives at least 3 quizzes for each exam and she replaced our lowest quiz grade with our homework average (it’s really easy to do well on ARIS if you are willing to put in the time). The exams were a little difficult but they were multiple choice and she woud give partial credit for work shown. She also dropped our lowest lab grade. Now, my friend told me she is not giving them partial credit during this summer class so I can’t guarantee what she’ll do in the fall. Oh, and she also either brought in donuts or baked muffins for something for us on exam days and she brought in bagels and spreads for our finals :)

@ cometstarg i also tried getting hussain bc of his good reviews and his availability in my schedule…i really hope its a decent teacher -__-
