Fall semester of freshman year is random. After that you get to make up your own schedule, so if you don’t like early classes you can try to get later ones. However, sometimes classes just aren’t offered that late or (in my case) you cannot fit in any of the later classes. I’ve had 8am chemistry every semester since freshman year, and next semester I have 8am/8:30 classes every day except for the one day I have off. My roommate however (school of culture and society) has maybe two 10 am classes two days of the week and then all 5:30 classes as her earliest on the rest. Must be nice lol…

Just keep in mind, when you get to the “real” world you may have to get up early everyday to get to work.

Glacius and other TCNJers,
Thank you.You do some job answering all these question, many of them repetitious. Mine is also. I have 1380/2160 SAT but only a 3.41 GPA from a pretty decent NJ school. I didn’t go ED because I wanted to take a shot at some lower Ivies. What are my chances RD in Bio, for getting some merit money and getting an invite or acceptance to the honors program? I’ve visited the school three times for programs including the “scholars luncheon” and can’t wait to get a thumbs up. Thanks again.

I think you have a pretty good shot at the bio program. SAT scores are above average, although the GPA seems a little on the low side. Is that weighted or unweighted? How rigorous was your course load compared to your classmates? What is your class rank or percentile? It would also help if you listed any ECs. I’m not sure how they determine merit money but the GPA might hurt you since that’s a factor. An honors invite also requires you to be top 10% of your class too, but you can always apply as a freshman and get in as a sophomore.

Thanks Glacius,
I’ve had mostly science Honors, AP Stat and was the Treas. of both French and Chinese Honor societies. My school is pretty competitive so my GPA probably only puts me in the top third. I didn’t do too much by way of ECs except for JSA and tutoring and was National Merit commended. By the way, I actually put Chem as what I wanted to major in. Is that equally as difficult to get into?
I also forgot to mention I am instate. Thanks.

Ditto to everything Glacius said. True, you don’t have many EC’s, but most colleges would rather see a large amount of dedication to 1 or 2 organizations than mediocre effort in several groups. Chem should be easier to get into because there tends to be less applicants (thus reducing competition). I’m just a little confused, did you apply for bio with chem as your alternative choice or did you apply for chem with intention to transfer into the bio program? Regardless, you should be able to get into the chem program with no problem.

You know, I had to check what I put as my first choice. It was bio. I read somewhere that if you are accepted you might be told you were accepted for a different major than you applied for.
I keep looking at the PAWS site and can’t believe they set up that much access for all applicants. I have an ID, a major courses outline, and scores of other personalized pages that you 'd think only currently attending students would have. Is this any hint that somebody told the people that set up these accounts that I was getting accepted? It would seem pretty cruel to set up all these accounts with your particulars in them and then tell you you weren’t accepted. What do you think?

When are notifications sent out for RD applicants? I heard that it was February 15th but couldn’t find any information online besides “No later than April 1st”

@queutee314 - You can request a person you met on facebook as a roommate, but the actual process is done through myhousing. Assuming you are an incoming freshman, even if you do request a roommate it’s really hard to actually get them as a roommate because you would have to either be in the same FSP or in FSPs that are housed on the same floor.

@cometstarg
Thanks for the quick reply… yes I’m an incoming freshman and SO EXCITED! maybe I’m naive but what is myhousing and FSP and FSPs? sorry, so many questions!

FSP stands for freshman seminar program. It’s a full credit class that every freshman must take his/her fall semester. You’ll get to pick your top choices during the summer. Basically, everyone in the same fsp is housed “near” each other (they told us it would be on the same floor but yeah, maybe half of my fsp was actually on my freshman floor lol). MyHousing is the program that we use to apply for housing. You’ll learn about it when you apply for housing during the summer.

Officially you can have guests stay over for no more than three consecutive nights and you must have written permission from your roommate, but you could just talk it over with your roommate (especially if it’s a girlfriend/boyfriend) and see what they think about it. As long as there isn’t someone camping out in your room for a month no one really cares.
