Ask questions about BU here!

@“Pakshal Mehta” I’d suggest Warren if you’re a freshman, it’s very convenient and close to everything

Is the internet good?

Thank you @woahitsnicole for the answer, I have listed warren towers as my first choice! how can I get confirmation that I have been enrolled in the environmental policy and marine sciences major I had listed in the application…the acceptance letter only mentions admission to CAS. Is there someone you could connect me with who is doing this same combination?

@flatline Yeah pretty good, there’s wifi all over campus

@BU2022 I don’t know anyone with that combination sorry, but if your letter says admission to CAS you should be good to go with your majors

@woahitsnicole thanks! in your experience are there classes in BU that gets “filled up” quickly causing one to wait for an year if not enrolled on time? If so, when/where do we start selecting the classes?

@BU2022 Some classes fill, but you can get on waitlists/get in other ways if the class is required for your major. But you don’t have to worry about that, they are really good about making sure freshmen in each major get what they need. You register for classes at orientation in the summer, it’s pretty confusing but they show you through it so don’t worry at all, they’ll help you through all of it in person

@woahitsnicole thank you!

What is the social scene like and would you describe BU students as friendly, or cliquey, etc?

So I am going to the last orientation, and I am worried about registering for all of the classes I need. Do they start registering in the Summer with freshman? Or do we have to wait until orientation? I know you answered a similar question above. I just wanted to know how far in advance in the summer we register or if it is strictly during orientation.

also I heard a lot about deflation, in your opinion if you are a straight A student in high school and took all AP classes and still did fine without a lot of studying etc, do you think we will be fine? I know I will have to study more and step up a bit, but overall???

@coha226 Social scene is what you make of it. Most people here are super friendly and I’ve met some incredible people who I’m super grateful to be friends with! You mostly see the cliques in Greek life (sororities/frats), but it’s generally not like that

@aastsen18r You could technically register now, but waiting till orientation isn’t a bad idea because it’s a pretty complicated process. Since you’ll be a freshman you’re going to be in mostly intro-classes or classes designed for mostly freshmen, so they save tons of spots so that everyone can get what they need. And even if classes are full, there are waitlists so you will get what you need! Don’t sweat that. And grade deflation is kinda a thing but it depends on the subject. The writing classes here have it, but it’s not something to really really worry about. I had mostly A’s in high school and my GPA here isn’t great, but it’s not supposed to be easy like high school. You have to put in a LOT more work but getting good grades isn’t impossible, again it depends on the classes you’re in

can you talk about club sports/intramurals, like how competitive they are and how many people participate, etc

@coha226 Intramurals are pretty easy to join, club sports you do have to try out for. A lot of people play club/intramural, but club is a larger commitment and is definitely more competitive because there’s travel involved

How fast do classes fill up? I’m trying to figure out when to do orientation based on that.

@flatline Most of your classes as a first semester freshman will be full of other freshman, so they keep a lot of spots open in those intro-classes for each major. I would recommend one of the earlier dates just so you can get more a first preference, but you won’t be stuck if you wait till a later one

Hi y’all! I’m a current freshman LOVING BU so far  feel free to ask me any questions about life here (food, dorms, classes, etc) and I’d be happy to answer!!

I applied ED1 last year and CC was such a useful resource for me back then so I want to spread the love

Current freshman in the STEM field (bio major, pre-dental track, also knowledgeable about engineering majors)! I applied RD, and have many different opinions upon actually being a student at BU.

If you have any specific questions, I am happy to answer!

hii @sunflowerlover i also applied ED so i was wondering, what was ur GPA/act score? also what dorm do u live in, how is it meeting people, how are the classes? x
