Hello everyone, I am from the PACE '14-'15 cohort and I just wrapped all of my school work up. I know there are many of you who are anxious about PACE since there is virtually zero information about it. I was in your position this time last year.
Feel free to ask me any questions! I would love to help some of ya’ll out.
MODERATOR’S NOTE: Anyone is free to ask or answer questions in this thread.
Wow, thank you for posting this. I can’t believe there have been no questions asked. I guess I’d want to know if you’ve already transferred and what major you were accepted in.
@nancyvh No problem, I’m more than happy to answer questions. I have not been accepted to the major I want to transfer into yet. We submitted our transfer applications in February and we have been told that a decision will be made by July 1st. That’s pretty much the way it goes for all transfer students since admissions has to wait until the spring semester grades are out (they were just posted).
Oh yeah, and a common misconception is that PACE students are considered “internal transfers” when they transfer after their year in PACE. This is not the case for the business school (I’m not totally sure about other majors), but business school PACE applicants will compete against other external transfers I.E. ACC and CAP students.
Also heres a little protip: Get the earliest orientation session you can.
Let me know if you have any more questions!
Do I have to take the ALEKS test during orientation? If I wanna transfer to CNS.
Would studying abroad sophomore year be different than if I were a “regular” student?
ALSO, how many hours did you take each semester? And did you get a 4.0, or close? What classes did you take at ACC and UT and how difficult were they?
@colaudrey I believe I avoided the ALEKS because I took pre-cal in high school. I think to take calc I/II at ACC you had to either have taken pre-cal in high school, taken the ALEKS exam, or you can take an ACC entrance exam to satisfy the prerequisite.
When you are in the PACE program you ARE a UT student. Don’t think that you’re anything else because I can’t recall being restricted from anything that a UGS student couldn’t do. On that note, once you transition out of the program and into your major at the end of your freshman year, you will technically be considered a “regular” student by the university. So to answer your question, no, it would not be different.
The PACE program requires you to have 24 credit hours from ACC and 6 hours from UT at the end of the year. That is 12 ACC hours and 3 UT hours per semester. I think for the first semester everyone has to take the same UT course (UGS 302).
Not to stress any of you out, but if you want to transfer into a competitive major, plan on working hard. I say this because you have to take certain prerequisites in order to be considered for competitive majors. For business you have to take microeconomics, macroeconomics, calc I and calc II.
ACC takes math very seriously and it pretty much weeds out people who don’t work hard. I made a 4.0 at ACC and a 4.0 at UT. Two of my friends made the same. I know countless others who struggled in their prerequisite courses.
Don’t let this discourage you though, it’s completely manageable with some hard work. Play the game and look up your professors. Don’t get stuck with the calc teacher who only gives out one A. ACC classes are generally pretty easy outside of math.
Thank you so much, PACE1415 !! Hope you get in to the major of your choice. Appreciate your input.

Are you saying I have to take UGS my first semester? Or can I take it my 2nd semester?
@colaudrey I’m not completely sure, you should talk to your advisor.
@PACE1415 you just had to take precal in high school in order to take Calc at ACC? I’m looking only to take Calc 2 next year because I think I did okay on the calc AB test, but I got an email from the PACE director the other day saying that we would all take the placement exam anyway? I dunno, I’d rather not take that exam if I don’t have to haha
@JadwinGillies It sounds like they might be approaching it differently than how they did last year since you got an email saying everyone has to take a placement exam. If it’s anything like last year (it probably is completely different now), you really didn’t have to take a placement exam because the professor didn’t check. However I still took the ALEKS anyway.
