What colleges does Vassar cross-register with??

My D was waitlisted, Vassar is her first choice. Can she look at the FB page for admitted students?

How is the food at Vassar?

@frazer1, yes, she can definitely join the Facebook page (although it might make her fall in love with the school even more, which might make her feel even worse if she doesn’t get in off the wait-list) but here’s the link: www.facebook.com/groups/426495160742481/

Are there blenders in the dining hall that students can make smoothies with? If not, should I bring my own blender? I love smoothies, you guys…

Hi AVvsMom

The food is fine at Vassar - plenty of choices for all kinds of eating. Meals are a time when friends come together and having one main dining hall - that encourages a community. There are other places to get food (sandwiches) on campus and just across the street are many small ethinic restaurants and just 2 blocks away is an Unos and a Greek diner.

I need help!!! Sorry to interupt but I don’t know what to do. I am a freshman in higheschool and I’ve been having a lot of anxiety about getting into a good school. My dream is to get into Duke university or something along that ranking. I have all a’s, I am in leadership club, have a lot of community service hours, and I dance and play the piano. My only major problem is that I am only in Algebra 1 honors and I feel like great colleges won’t accept me if I keep in the same course as I am. My school gives the opportunity to double up on geometry and Algebra 2 next year, but it’s just to much and I don’t know if I can handle it. Please tell me what to do!

Hi Francheska…On one hand, it’s nice to see how invested you are in wanting to go to a school like Duke but on the other hand, although I don’t know your reasons for wanting to go to Duke, it’s a lot of pressure to place on yourself as a freshman. I assume math isn’t your strong suit? What about taking the next level of math during the summer? Unless you want to major or concentrate in a field that requires a strong math background, I think it’s best to take the most rigorous classes in all of the other areas, do well and focus on getting A’s in your other subjects. Sounds like you’re on the right track with community hours and other EC’s but it’s more than that…if you can find a way of doing something that sets you apart from your other classmates, that will be to your advantage as well. Focus on the schools that might be the best fit for you, your passions and not just a name school…As we found out while we applied this year, you can still have it all on paper and still not get accepted…it really can be a crap shoot but you will get in to a great school when that time comes…Stressing about it now just isn’t good for your body, mind or spirit…It’s good to plan and know what you want but having major anxiety isn’t necessary :)

Francheska,
You would perhaps be better off posting in the Duke forum. Or relaxing a bit as you are only in 9th grade :)

This isn’t really a question for a current student, but I didn’t want to start another thread. Its a little bit of a vent, so apologies in advance.

I am a proud VC alum, and was reading my current issue of the Vassar Quarterly (thats the alum magazine). They referred to Ann Hathaway as Ann Hathaway '04. They did then go on to explain that she only attended for a few semesters before transferring to NYU, but since she did not graduate with the class of '04, it seems odd to refer to her that way. I get that she was a member of the class at one point, but I don’t recall other former students or classmates who transferred or otherwise didn’t graduate have their class year affiliation after their name, as it seems to imply to me that they graduated with that class. Has something changed since I graduated (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth).

Slow response, jym626, but the answer is that once a member of the class, always a member of the class. My daughter went to one high school for two years and transferred to another school because she wasn’t happy. She gets the alum magazine and - here’s the nub of the matter- she gets calls during the fund raising phoneathon.

Tell her to give generously!

So I’m planning on auditioning for 16 schools this fall and I am not in the best financial situation so I am adding up how much i will need for all the applicaiton and auditon fees.

I currently cannot find the auditon fees for these schools.

Rider University:
Ithaca:
Temple:
Shanandoah:
Penn State:
Texas State:
University of the Arts:
Carnegie Mellon:
Muhlenberg:

If anyone happens to know any of the audition fees for these schools please reply!

I have a question about housing. My kid was assigned to “Two Room Triple”. It says it consists of a single room off of the One Room Double. Does this mean that the three students have to discuss/fight over the attached single room? Or the single room is usually assigned to a sophomore or junior and the two lower classmen share the one room part?
Thanks.

well Sophia i have no idea what the audition fees are for those schools but im sure they are readily available on google.
if not then call each school and explain your situation. depending on the school and how much your parents make they might let you audition for free with a waiver. I know vassar does something like this.

But yea just call the deparment and ask them.

Hitowamom:

from my friends experience tell your kid to get there early and just throw your stuff on the single room bed. freshman dont live with anyone but freshman as far as I know so its pretty much up for grabs.

I am going to be a highschool senior and must choose my classes soon. I am currently taking AP Literature, TV News Production, AP Gov/Econ, H Anatomy,AP Statistics and cross country.
I want to major in broadcast journalism and I considered dropping either H Anatomy or AP Stats because neither are vital for my major, and I want to have a less stressful senior year. I currently have 5 years of high school math (algebra 7th, geometry 8th, H algebra2/trig 9th, H precalc 10th and Ap calc bc 11th). I also have all required years of science with biology, chemistry and physics. Which should I drop–ap stats or H anatomy(if any)-- to have a lighter load and still look good for universities?

Hi everyone, I go to a public school that isn’t very competitive, but I am personally competitive.
I am taking
Ap Bio
AP W history
Japanese 2
Computer Science
Honors English 10
Pre Calc

Do you think that This schedule is competitive, and Do you think I will be able to handle the workload.
I am a pretty good student and I got a 4.0 last year (My freshman year). But I have never taken AP classes before so…
Are they much greater in difficulty?
Do you think that a Honors student like myself would have trouble in these classes?

Thank you very much.

Hi, I’m new to this and hopefully I’m asking this question at the right place. I am a senior in high school and am about to turn in my application to UT Austin. I am in the top 7% of my class so i am automatically admitted. I want to know if anybody knows how long it will take me to get an acceptance letter to make sure I am in. Does the amount of time differ if I am automatically admitted? SOMEONE PLEASE REPLY!!!

You are on the Vassar College instead of UT Austin Page. Do find the UT Austin page. This is anecdotal but some State Us like U Colorado Boulder have an automatic system and it takes 2-4 weeks to find out in September, longer with each subsequent month. Good luck! PS: We need to end this thread!

Is the student body diverse at Vassar ( with internationals)?

How is the Chemistry dept. at Vassar?

Jay3648: Courses at different schools can vary in difficulty. That said, I know that most Vassar students took challenging course-loads in high school and excelled.

hezekiel: 1. There seem to be a lot of international students. Also, the international students receive a lot of guidance early on and assimilate well. 2. I have heard wonderful things about the Chemistry department! It’s known for being one of the better departments.
