I'd just took the math and chemistry tests. I have no problem passing the chemistry part, but one point short on the math test (got 1 on trig and 15 on algebra). I completed the AP Calculas AB with a B and waiting for the exam result (expecting atleast a 3 (the free response questions were extremely hard!!!)) Do you think I have a chance with the MAC2311? What should I expect?

Thank you

I can't speak on your math strength, but if you were able to handle AP Calc, how did you fall short on the Math Assessment Test?

I went into MAC2312, so I am not exactly sure how hard MAC2311 is, but if you pass the AP Test, I would imagine that you can handle MAC2311 without too much difficulty. You will have credit for the course if you passed, a 3 is good enough for credit. If you are not going to continue with calc2 and on, I would take the credit. However, if you have doubts about your abilities in calc, I would take it again.

Didn't miss any questions on the math and chem assessment tests and found AP Calc easy. Can I take MAC 3434 this fall?

You mean MAC3474 - Honors Calc 3? I usually don't recommend skipping calc 2 and going into calc 3 your first semester even if you scored a 5 on the AP test. I got a 5 on AP Calc BC and still decided to enroll in calc 2 instead. In terms of material, I did learn a few new things, but what was more important was that I was able to see how a technical course in college was structured and how to study for a course like that. This has proved invaluable to me throughout the engineering curriculum.

Now, calc 3 is pretty independent of calc 2. Calc2 is a study of advanced methods of a single variable where calc 3 is aka 'multivariable calculus'. So you will deal with stuff in 2 and 3 dimensions. I'm pretty sure you will be able to handle it if you found AP calc easy (calc 3 isn't really that hard, unless you get a crazy professor), it's just that I feel it is unnecessary to that far ahead when it's not really going to help in the long run. But hey, that's just how I feel. If you really want to take calc 3 your first semester, I'm sure you'll be able to handle it just fine. Good luck to you.
