Hello! I was wondering if anyone applying to ASU Barrett, the Honors College, has heard back for the Fall 2016 term. My application portal says my application was moved into review, but I don’t know whether to expect to hear back soon or in January, like the website says.
Thank you!
I got in. Found out a couple days after I submitted on the 16th. I am a National Hispanic scholar tho
Congratulations GriffBaum! That’s really great! I keep hearing that NMS and NHMS get accepted within a few days of their application moving into review.
Thanks! Good luck to you!
My D was accepted just before Thanksgiving. She is National Merit commended, not NMF.
S16 had a glitch…one of the two teachers claimed to have never received email regarding LOR request. Once discovered approx 2 weeks after applying, son re-sent request and teacher got LOR in within one day (approx. 11/29).
Son just received acceptance approx. 3-4 days after second LOR was submitted. He is a NMSF.
I’m not a NMSF or anything of the sort but I have high stats. I was accepted 3-4 days after my application was complete–the day before I toured the college.
EDIT: I toured the college 11/23 if I remember correctly.
Im InTernational, and they told me that there was an easier way to apply for Barrett’s, so I’m waiting for that to go online. Congrats to those who got in!
WOW, congratulations mollikinz. Out of curiosity, what do you mean by high stats? They really must have wanted you for them to reply so quickly!
Can I ask you about your stats, mollikinz? Barrett is my top pick at this point and I’m so in love with the college that I would be heartbroken if I wasn’t accepted. How tough is it really?
My objective stats:
3.9 UW/4.075 W GPA
34 composite on ACT
I know that their middle 50 for the ACT is 29 so I’m well above that. I’m not sure about GPA, though.
Another thing is that I applied for the “priority” deadline which may have played some role. Good luck everyone!
Good for you! My stats are:
3.85 UW/ 4.15 W GPA
32 composite on ACT
2100 SAT
I also received the Presidential Scholarship for ASU, if that adds to anything.
I applied for the Priority Deadline, but I know it wasn’t moved into review quickly. Maybe that’s part of it? I can definitely see them not getting back to us for a while now because the school is shutting down for Winter Break. I just keep refreshing my portal, and waiting!
I was accepted within a few days of my application (after the Priority Deadline). I just heard back on receiving the Presidential Scholar.
Stats:
In-State Student
National Merit Semi-Finalist
3.9 UW / 4.7 Weighted GPA
35 Composite ACT
2330 SAT (1550 Verbal+Math)
I got into Barrett about a week after I applied and received the Provost’s Scholarship.
Stats:
Out of state
3.5 UW (at competitive MA school) 4.15 W on 4.25 scale
Top 10%
28 ACT
2160 SAT (1460 composite)
Good luck!!
Got into Barrett a month ago and received the Presidential Award
Stats:
Out of State
3.89 UW/4.1 W
SAT: 2110
Hi I’m new to college confidential and wasn’t sure what thread to post this in.
I just got accepted to Barrett ASU under a biological sciences major in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. I want to be Pre-med but want to choose a major that I’ll enjoy and will provide me an alternate, high-paying, enjoyable career if med school doesn’t work out. I really like economics and was wondering:
- Is Economics a good major for pre-med?
- Should I choose the economics major in the W. P. Carey school of business bc of alumni and job networks or pursue the economics major in the liberal arts and sciences college?
- Should I double major or minor in biology in addition to Econ to be better prepared for the MCAT/ Med school?
@flatironthoughts I think your question would be best asked in a separate thread. Anyway, I’ll try to address it.
- Any major is a good major for pre-med. Your major does not matter. As admissions become more competitive, med schools are looking for diverse, well-rounded candidates. Your chances are higher if you follow a passion rather than what you think "looks," or correlates best, to a medical school.
- For an Econ major, I highly recommend W.P. Carey over CLAS. Being that you'd be in Barrett, the differences will be less apparent. Should you once day decide to leave Barrett, WPC is the better school and community. Moreover, I'd rather have a degree from WPC, and the school's connections, to fall back on if med school didn't work out.
- If biology is a passion, and you don't think pursuing it would harm your GPA, then I'd say yes to either of those options. An Econ/Biology double major, however, sounds like it would be logistically challenging. A minor would be much more do-able. Here's a snippet from a good US News article about choosing the right major for med school aspirants "Matriculants who majored in biological sciences had a mean MCAT of 31 and GPA of 3.69. Humanities majors had a mean MCAT of 31.8 and GPA of 3.66."
-->--> My advice: pick the major that you think you'll do the best at. If you "love" biology but get straight B's, Med School is probably not going to be an option. Word of advice: some Barrett kids have difficulty managing all of it's requirements, and in turn, neglect internships and the like, or suffer from a lower GPA as they try to balance it all. You are first, and foremost, a student of ASU.
ASU has great resources and advising. If you’re really interested in attending, I think Admissions can put you in contact with various people who can really help your decision making.
@coloradoconfined Thanks so much for your detailed response, it’s so helpful!
Got in. Found out the same day I submitted my application.
