ASU Scholarship decisions?

Son just got admitted to Mech Engineering Fulton for Fall 17. When will the scholarship
decisions be made ? On My ASU they dont yet have the 2017-2018 tab so I guess they
haven’t started work on aid for Fall 17.

Thanks.

Hello. My son just received his scholarship letter in the mail last week. He was accepted for Mech Engineering back in September. There is no mention of the scholarship on his MyASU portal. I think it’s because the 2017-2018 tab is not there yet. I’m not sure if all scholarship notices are being sent now or if it will be x amount of weeks after you get accepted.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I guess it will be a month or more after the admission decision before they send scholarship decisions. Can I ask how much your son received, and if the letter included details of the full aid package including grants and loans ? Thanks again.

He received the President’s Scholarship of $13,00 per year for 4 years. This was an automatic merit scholarship. You can estimate your son’s award based on the ASU scholarship estimator: It was accurate in our case. The letter only addressed the merit scholarship. Financial aid such as grants/loans will be tied to the FASFA. We don’t expect to get any financial aid and I’m not aware of when that normally gets awarded.

My D is in-state and automatically received 8k per year. She is additionally applying to barrett. and awaiting on that. The scholarship offer came in the mail about 1-2 weeks after initial accept.

What benefits are there in applying to Barrett for a prospective engineering major ? Thanks.

Being an honors student in engineering probably won’t make much difference in job offers if you are going straight to work after your BS degree. However, there are several benefits of a less tangible nature. My daughter is a computer science and math double major who really enjoyed the small class discussions in both the Human Events classes and the Honors English class. However, those classes can be tedious if you do not like to write. Doing the required undergraduate thesis can be helpful for graduate school applications both because it is research experience and because working closely with a thesis advisor is an opportunity for a very personal, informed letter of recommendation. Of course you can do those things outside Barrett also but there’s a lot of support and good advising doing it as part of the Honors Program.

I imagine there are lots of studious students in the engineering dorms, but my daughter had good experiences in the Honors dorms as she found them pretty quiet, especially for quiet hours and around finals.

My son was accepted back in September to Mechanical Engineering. The scholarship estimator said he qualified for the Presidential but so far no letter. I am hoping it is because we are in PA and those receiving letters are a lot closer. I know this is a scholarship thread but has anyone seen the new Engineering dorm? Just wondering if it is complete enough to tour through.

I drove past the new engineering dorm yesterday. It will be an awesome living/learning community for engineering students. It’s not tour-ready yet though.

Thanks for the reply. I have never been fully clear about the Honors thing.

My son’s financial aid status is still in Submit a FAFSA. The Financing Tasks Priority Actions list is empty.

I did submit the FAFSA quite some time back.

My son just received the non-resident Provost’s Award. He is still waiting to hear from Barrett.

I applied in August and was accepted in September. I received the $6,500/semester non-resident Provost’s Award shortly after I was accepted, and just last week I received an email informing me that I was granted another $2,000/semester from the university.

S was accepted on 1/28. His Fin Aid just updated and he (we) was offered $44k in loans/yr. No thanks.

This is curious because he qualifies for Provost/President’s Scholarships. Does the $44k loan offer mean he didn’t qualify for Provost/President’s, or is the scholarship info forthcoming? I will call the office later today but I was wondering if anyone has had this experience. We are OOS - NY.

When did you send the FAFSA in? It’s possible that it hasn’t been looked over yet, so the merit scholarship hasn’t been granted as of a few days ago.

S was awarded Preaident’s Scholarship today.

Congrats! Makes a big difference in cost of attendance too!

S was awarded President’s Scholarship last week.
