Please let Cal Poly know if you do not plan to attend so that students on the wait list can have a chance of getting in. I know of several students wherel Cal Poly is their first choice and would love to have the chance to attend…Thanks

Yes. Thank you for starting this thread. My D is wait listed for Architecture. If she doesn’t hear from CP she will go to Virginia Tech. I will be sad to see her go so far away.

My friend is actually in the same exact situation ^ she was waitlisted at slo for architecture and if she doesnt get in, shes going to virginia tech. Also from California. Haha weird

^^My D is from San Joaquin County, Northern CA…where is your friend from?

Shes from los angeles!

Unfortunately there are many admitted students who are in the same boat with other schools. My son accepted his admission to CP but was wait-listed at his first choice. He was actually just admitted to that school on an appeal and will make his decision in the next week. Chances are that you will not hear from CP until after 5/1 even if some students turn them down earlier than that. Good luck everyone!!!

5555 and others- my S just accepted his admission to his 1st choice that he appealed to, so will be withdrawing from CP tomorrow. I am sure this same thing is happening at many schools and I don’t really think it will speed up the wait list acceptance at CP. But still, maybe his spot in Kinesiology will now open up. Good luck to everyone!

Congrats to him! Where will he be going? My daughter is a Kines. major at CP. Best wishes!

the only way that declinations from accepted students will affect the wait list is if that number is different from what Cal Poly admissions already forecasted to be the number. i.e. if CP Admissions expects a 30% yield from the accepted students pool, but only 28% SIR, then there is a 2% opportunity for wait listed kids. Actually at Cal Poly it goes by major, but it is the same principle.

I just declined Cal Poly’s admission for the psychology major so hopefully this opens a spot for anyone who’s still waiting! Good luck (:

Thanks Chantel, I know of 6 students who have accepted other admission offers and I have asked them to let Cal Poly know. Unfortunately none are in my major but 4 of them are engineering majors for any of you trying to get into that major.

Thanks 2Leashes. He ended up at UCSD. He really liked CP academically, but UCSD was right in there as well and he will play on the soccer team. My husband and I graduated from CP and we were excited about him attending there, but are thrilled that he will be able to play soccer at UCSD!

Surprising how many kids take it down to the wire, (we are one of them) and we will be informing schools he is not attending (including CP) this weekend and I think that would be the timeframe for many.
