I am an OOS student looking to attend UT Austin and wanting to major in geology, and the Jackson School of Geosciences is one of the best in the nation. I am looking to specialize in teaching and have a few questions…
- Is it hard to get into the Jackson School of Geosciences in general? I'm assuming it is easier than McCombs and Cockrell.
- Does the Jackson School of Geosciences give a lot of scholarships? I know it is hard to get them from UT itself.
- Since it is a composite science degree, would I be better off going to the College of Natural Sciences for teaching?
- How are the meals and dorms at UT Austin? Is the food good?
- How do you double major at UT Austin as a freshman?
- Not saying I would do this, but could I double major with geology and economics in the College of Liberal Arts? After my freshman year if accepted, would I be able to transfer to McCombs and complete my accounting BA in 3 years?
Thanks!
Any help? Anyone know anything about the Jackson School of Geosciences?
As you note, the geosciences dept is very highly regarded, and I have heard repeatedly on this site that it is very difficult to get into. I seem to recall hearing that they also do not accept very many students. That is all just hearsay; hopefully someone more knowledgeable will weigh in. Also, it is not possible to double major as a freshman at UT, unless one of the majors is Plan II. You can apply to add a second major at the end of your freshman year.
I’m a prospect student too and I ate a meal at their cafeteria, it’s only like $4 for lunch and it’s a buffet. It is not the most amazing food but I would say it’s certainly as good as any fast food restaurant, and it’s 4 bucks, very good meal for the price. The dorms seems standard, a lot of them just got renovated last year, as good as any public school dorms
Some of the question you have like the one about double majoring would be more appropriate to ask an university official
