Thoughts on the Jackson School of Geosciences?

Unfortunately, I have already applied to UT but have decided that the major that I chose on my application (biology) is not what I am truly passionate about and I think I may go about trying to change the major that I specified on my application. Before I did this, though, I wanted to see what others thought about trying for a Bachelor of Arts in Geological Sciences. I have become increasing interesting in the environment while taking AP Environmental Science and I’m thinking that this major is the closest possible major to environmental studies. I’ve read that the school is good, but I hardly ever hear anything about the program (when talking about good programs at UT, I always hear about business and engineering). Is there anyone who knows more about this program at UT?

Also, currently I plan to someday go to medical school. Will it be unwise of me to major in Geological Science if my future is in medicine? Is it possible to double major in something like geological sciences and biochemistry? Thanks in advance for any info!

Well the school is good, and relatively new, which is probably why you haven't heard of them. I honestly would not even know about it if my friend wasn't a geosciences major. He enjoys it a lot, and since the funding is amazing for the school(a large donation enabled the major to create its own school), it allows for the students in the school to get good scholarships as well. I do not know if you can double major, but you should be able to. It really doesn't matter what major your in for med school, just so long as you have the pre requisites for med school you should be ok.

Thanks for the info. If I get to visit the school, I would really like to visit the facilities. Any other information?
