I would like to know how many of you on this board are applying to MIT. Furthermore, if any of you have information regarding the level of accomplishments of current Canadian undergrads, I'm sure this would be of interest for all of us.

I'm from Montreal and am really anxious about this process at the moment. MIT's my top choice in the universe but less than 5% international get in. I wonder if the acceptance rate is higher for Canadians though. I checked the number of undergraduate Canadians at MIT on the website. It is currently at 17, down from 28 5 years ago. Any theories about this huge drop? What about national and international awards, do you guys have some? Anyways, keep me posted and lets use this thread to tell eachother about decisions. Is there anyone from Montreal here? That would help because if one of us get a package on a given day and the other one doesn't, it will me that we aren't accepted... Best of luck!

toronto kid here.
i am kinda neverous, but if i cannot get in, i knew that its not i am not good, its cuz MIT is sooooooooo competitive.
the most bestest(i just learned it, hehe) luck to everyone.

Montreal!!! I really wanted to come visit your city. My friends are coming there for their grad trip, but I can't go :( Anyways, will come sometime :)
So,
1. Why did I apply to MIT. Well, because its MIT. Secondly, my thought process went along these lines. Going to school in the states will cost me around Cda $200,000. If I'm spending soooo much money, I want to spend it on the best of the best. Otherwise, spending so much money isn't worth it. I'd rather just go to a good school in Canada (for a lllloooootttt less $$), which rocks too!

Unfortuanately, I fail this section. I do not do science fairs, am not good enough for olympiads, and played music for too short a time to enter in competitions. Well, can't have everything.

I've won top awards at the Canada-Wide Science Fair and the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair and gone to Europe for a non-competitive fair. That is my area where I stand out. Unfortunately, my SATs are really low. We'll see what happens. All you other Canadians lurking, come on out and join the show!

Well, my SATs are way worse than you guys, so don't complain. I wan't to major in Physics and/or Material Sciences and double minor in German and history. Did you see the new minor in applied international relations? Looks great. That is a possibility as well for me provided Marleen Jones can accept that I have talent even though I suck at American stardadised tests although my provincial tests are stellar. Wonder if they will even look at those. I have no idea of the number of Canadians applying. However, my interviewer here in Montreal says that their has been a significant decrease in applicants from my town and he's been doing the EC thing for about 10 years. Furthermore, as I mentioned before, 5 years ago, MIT had 28 Canadian u-grad as opposed to 17 now. That is a crazy drop!!! Does anyone know how long DHL takes to get to a destination to Canada? Also, where else are you guys applying? I'm going for Princeton where I think my odds are better but also very low, obviously.

Have a nice day. Enjoy your March break if you are in my situation. Let's keep this post nice and lively until all of us know the decisions. United we stand!

Yah that sounds about right. I read that somewhere on Matt's blog. So exactly 2 weeks from now, those of us who don't have a package will know they have been rejected provided that they send out decisions on Pi day again this year (14 th of March). So Saint-Patrick's day it will be!!! Hoping that Irish blood in me will serve me well.

I also sent MIT a copy of a research paper that I wrote after experimentation at McGill University. I hope that will help. PrincetonWannabe, I heard your applying to Princeton as well, hehe. Well, I have a strange feeling that we'll be meeting in about 2 months. Keep in there man. I have good news aswell. I checked MyMIT account, and against all odds, they received my computer-based TOEFL score Wednesday and added it to my file. I'm really lucky because now I fulfill the testing requirements for non-native speakers and my SAT1, which I did horribly at, doen't matter, hehe. They are going to committee this Saturday or something like that, so, close call...

Well, I say that two of us four are gonna get the huge package but I'm not ready to call out names, just a gut feeling. Btw, are we all guys on this post, confirming that most of the internationals that apply to MIT are guys? And do tell me what you people intend to major in as well as your career goals.

Later,

We'll know one week from tomorrow and don't forget to to inform us as the letters roal in.
