From my understanding, as a current freshman, in-state students usually receive enough scholarships from AUSOM to fill any gap between the student’s Expected Financial Need(from the FAFSA) and the aid the student qualifies for from the FAFSA(Subsidized Loans, Unsubsidized loans, Pell grant, etc) + any Merit Scholarship. For example, if my expected need is $16000 and I receive a $8500 merit scholarship, $3500 Subsidized Loan, and a $2000 Unsubsidized Loan, then I would likely receive ~$2000(give or take $500) in scholarships from AUSOM so that the total of my scholarships and financial aid is close to the expected need.
This is not a set rule though, if a student received a very small merit scholarship then their total of scholarships and financial aid may not be as high as their expected need. You can also receive more than 1 scholarship on the portal and accept all that are offered. I personally only received 1 because I had a very large merit scholarships, but I know other students who received 2-4 AUSOM scholarships who had lower merit scholarships or higher expected need.
