Thanks - I am going to log into the prepaid today and check it out!
One would think if your stats fall into these categories it would mean you should be admitted but I know that is not the case looking at threads from last two years.
For your D28 it’s not such a bad thing to go out of state. To us being from Fort Lauderdale both Tallahassee and Gaisnville are both run down and a mini “Fort Lauderdale and Miami” with the same kids. We love Auburn, both the school and the town. ATMOSPHERE.
Correct OOS admission has become more selective as the percentages have risen.
S24 has football all afternoon and likely won’t even be able to check until after 9pm tonight, and by the time he does, I will be at the Taylor Swift Eras movie with D26 . It is going to be a loooong day!
Be aware that those awards are not “Automatic” - the website specifically states
" * Scholarships are awarded competitively. Consideration does not guarantee an award. Each entering class competes with itself. Actual awards are determined based on the number of qualified admitted students, the credentials of those applicants, and available funding."
The award actually comes ?today? with admittance. At least that’s how it worked with with S26. He got 2 letters on the portal. Admission and in his case Heritage Scholarship.
Simply posted what they have on their website.
How do they determine credentials when all they want is GPA and Test scores?
Both of our AU Applications were done through AU, NOT Common App as recommended by our Recruiter. We were able to upload the transcript GPA, and Class Rank and had scores sent by the college board. Easy Peasy.
We did the same. I am interpreting “credentials” as “extra” stuff that they would not see like activities/jobs/volunteering, etc.
I am wondering if “not all who meet those parameters” get money, they must be evaluating based on other factors, right?
and it’s 2:00pm for those of us on the west coast, yay!
Yeah, it’s pretty clear ACT/SAT Scores and GPA. That’s it.
COMPETITIVE MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS
Competitive merit scholarships are renewable for four years. First-year students must enroll summer or fall immediately following high school graduation to receive consideration.*
Consideration
- First-year students accepted for admission by mid-January receive automatic consideration. A scholarship application is not required.
- Consideration is based on high school GPA and standardized test score. Verify Auburn has received your most recent academic information in the Applicant Portal. Auburn will accept the ACT Superscore Report. Auburn will also calculate a superscore for the SAT and any individual score reports from ACT. Only your best testing result will be used for scholarship consideration. Updated highest scores must be received by Auburn by January 10. Scores received after this deadline will not be reviewed for competitive merit scholarship consideration.
Even though the below states “Mid-November” we got the award with admission in Oct 2021 with S26.
Awards
- Scholarships are awarded competitively. Consideration does not guarantee an award. Each entering class competes with itself. Actual awards are determined based on the number of qualified admitted students, the credentials of those applicants, and available funding.
- First-year students accepted for admission earlier are more likely to receive an award.
- Scholarships are awarded mid-November, mid-December, and mid-February.
- Recipients are notified by email to their Auburn email account and by postal mail to their permanent address.
No idea - again, I just copied what they post on their website.
The first “cut” is purely by GPA and SAT. Many schools have a minimum for both and will generate a composite score (e.g., GPA x 100 + SAT score = composite score). Students who exceed the desired composite score are offered the merit. If there are more qualified candidates than there is funding, then they may rank them (highest to lowest composite) and give to those with the higher composite score or look to secondary indicators (extracurriculars etc). I am not saying this is how AU does it but there is some variation of this approach adopted at other big schools.
My son was invited via a letter in the mail. We had visited doing a traditional campus tour during summer of 2022 and he had the V.I.T. visit in June of 2023. We are oos.
Lol have him make believe he’s sick so he can go check the portal in the bathroom !
Here’s the crazy thing- he totally IS sick and I wanted him to stay home today but he refused because of football. If he misses practice today he can’t play in the game They wonder why all 79 boys keep getting sick…it is constantly passing back and forth.
