Auburn’s registration schedule for classes is based on credit hours. Honors College will help move you up in line. However the more likely scenario is that most sophomores will have registered before freshman participating in the Honors College.

I am looking in AU Access now, but where does what you posted about housing show up? What do I look under to find this?
Has anyone received a merit award? When my DD logins into her account and clicks on the awards button, she gets an error page.
Has anyone gotten the acceptance letter / packet in the actual snail mail since last Friday when decisions came out ?
I’ve seen nothing about housing yet but you will find it in your child’s Auburn email I believe. If they’ve set that up when in AUAccess they click on their name top right and will see a drop down that includes email. They’ll just click on that. They use outlook so my daughter had to sign out of her high school outlook account and sign into her Auburn email. We haven’t received the housing email yet to fill out the application and pay the housing deposit.
We’ve not received a packet in the mail. Maybe soon. I feel like Ole Miss and Alabama came within the week.
The website says LATE OCTOBER for the Emails to go out and then posted in AU Access for the Housing login time stamp for the earliest time on Nov 8th or beyond.
Merit Awards have not been loaded on AU Access yet. However, if you were Accepted “FIRST ROUND” just look at your scores and GPA and you WILL GET the accompanying Merit Award.
NOPE but not concerned. Everything is on AU Access. I can’t remember how long it took with my other son 2 years ago. He did get 2 packages one form AU and one from AU Nursing.
Thank you, wanted to make sure we didn’t miss anything and can’t wait to see it in writing she’s in the range for the Presidential award and got her invite to honors
FYI
Nope, you didn’t miss anything The Honors college invite is a great accomplishment and if she is “in range” you have no worries. However, regarding Honors College, if you DD wants to minor in something specifically Honors may be a little too restrictive. My DS is going Mech Engineering with a Biz Minor to go on to a 5th year MBA, after a BS in Mech Engineering, and will not be doing Honors College for that reason. We will be meeting with an advisor on Friday the 27th and will make the Honors College decision based on that meeting.
The invite to apply to honors goes out to everyone with GPA and ACT score at or above 3.85 and 29. The invite does not guarantee acceptance, although historically the acceptance rate has been about 75 percent or so.
I would encourage your son to consider the honors college because of the benefits it provides for freshman. Many engineering students drop honors later on, but the honors housing, priority registration and the ability to take classes in the smaller honors sections with engaged professors is incredibly beneficial during freshman year.
Edited to add: Advising is another perk of honors My son found his honors advisor to be very helpful. His major advisor in the engineering school was not particularly useful.
S24 got the honors invite and the thought of two more essays is just too much right now so he is not applying.
Yeah, I would definitely not agree that “in range” = no worries. I know several “high achieving” kids last year who were not accepted into the Honors College - the stats get them in the door, but I think the essays really are the deciding factor.
I do agree that many majors can be restrictive when it comes to HC courses. They are very helpful when it comes to contracting out courses, but it still seems like a daunting process as the years go on. Definitely recommend giving it a try the first year or two to take advantage of the perks like housing, priority registration, smaller class sizes, and social events. They can always decide to opt out if meeting the requirements becomes too involved.
I think it must depend on how many hours they have going in, and I think HC kids probably on average have a lot of credit. It seems like they count current hours they are taking, so if they went in with just a few course credits (I’m sure most do), they’re already at HC with 30+ hours, which has them above students with 57+ hours. Unless I’m missing something…
I just know even an hour head start to register can make a huge difference when it comes to getting the courses you want.
My son got the invite also, but I suspect his reaction will be the same. He has applied to two other schools that require essays for competitive scholarships and/or HC. He will do those for the chance to earn additional scholarship money, but I don’t see him taking on two additional complex essays just to get into Auburn’s HC. Honestly, I have been unsure about HC for him anyway, even with the purported benefits of smaller class sizes, priority registration, etc. I’m not sure it’s for every “smart” kid. My son is very math/science focused, and HC seems very humanities centric. I may be completely off base, but that’s what I have gathered from what I have read.
I think this is where we are as well. If S24 had narrowed it down to one school at this point and only needed to do additional scholarship applications and honors college application for the one, that might be one thing. With five schools still in play, there’s still a lot to deal with as admissions come in. I think HC will be one thing we can skip unless we can quickly eliminate some of these other choices.
